It really does annoy me when this happens but I can see the angle that they are coming from. Nintendo has a console that has many mascots, the main one being an Italian plumber. That sounds rather childish to people looking at it. You look at all the other characters that are related to Nintendo; Peach the Princess, Yoshi the dinosaur, Toad the stool and there are many other characters that you wouldn’t expect to see in a GTA3 style game.
The games that Nintendo released for the N64 were varied in their audiences but many of the great ‘hits’ of the console had fairly childish themes. Below I have listed a few of the consoles most talked about games and you will see how ‘childish’ they sound:
Banjo-Kazooie: Bird and Bear on cartoon levels…
MarioKart: The whole of the Mario team in one big racing game…
Mario 64: The mascot in his own adventure, big colourful levels…
Donkey Kong: Big monkey, lots of Bananas…
Pokemon: Pikachu, Bulbasaur, I rest my case…
I’ve only listed a few of the major games but these are the games that are going to be in the multi-format magazines and people seeing this will immediately think that Nintendo only release childish games.
The thing that really annoys people is that all of the more ‘mature’ games were really not mentioned that much. Perfect Dark was the only ‘mature’ game that was really mentioned in magazines and compared to the amount of more ‘childish’ games is just wasn’t really seen. Also, the other games that were intended to be for mature audiences were complete flops and were not talked about much. South Park, Turok 1 and 2, Turok Rage Wars and although it was a fairly good game, Conkers Bad Fur day was not really featured much.
The one thing that I haven’t mentioned yet is that although most of the N64’s ‘hits’ were more childish that your regular game, they were still great games to play. Banjo-Kazooie was a great game; MarioKart is a great multiplayer game; Mario 64 although similar the Banjo-Kazooie is a great game too. But for people looking at games, first impressions are usually very important and it can result in somebody buying or leaving the game and the first impression of most of the games is that they are childish and boring.
Basically, the reason for Nintendo being a ‘Kiddie Console’ is that most of the great games were aimed at a wider audience and although loyal Nintendo fans saw them for the game play, others just saw them as being stupid children’s games. People need to look deeper into the world of Nintendo, or Nintendo just need to give Mario a makeover. I’m sure if they give him a few bruises on his face, an Uzi machine gun and a cigarette in his mouth it might change peoples views.
that was so funny!
:D

You said that you didnt like people calling the console a 'kiddy console' and you then said that if a console has got 'kiddy games' that it makes the console a 'kiddy console'.
ALL consoles have got 'kiddy games'.
Therefore you are calling the console a 'kiddy console' yourself which is what you said you dont like poeple doing.
hahaha
So the kiddie games on the console were the ones that got it the reputation. Most of the older audience games were complete flops.
Explain to me what you were laughing about, I can't see what I said but I'm sure I've probably embarrased myself again.
Youve just wrote all that lot moaning about how you hate people calling Nintendo for making kiddy consoles and you just said that kiddy games make a kiddy console.
Do you understand what you have just said?
Well you are saying yourself that the consoles are kiddy because they have kiddy games.
ALL consoles (will) have kiddy games so youre saying that ALL consoles are for kids.
HAHAHAHA
Oh god, that was funny.
:D
That word's driving me mad now!
Just like all the other consoles, they are not kiddies consoles but some of the games obviously are designed for kids.
Simple.
