I've just checked my E-mail, and got a load of E-mails reffering to this type of Subject, <<[fwd] Re: Just now, go fill a kettle!>>. Has anyone else got all this crap???

Some were an E-mail which was sent to me, but said it was sent by me as well, and requested a comfermation E-mail sent ou when it had been read, but from what I see, that comfermation E-mail would have just been sent to me.

Another was a load of crap like you get when en E-mail you may send fales, andyou ge t a reply from that Mail Demaon thing, it had a list of addresses that I'd never heard of or sent anything to, and again saying how it couldn't deliver the E-mail to these addresses ... a lot of @bleuyonder.co.uk and @demon.co.uk addresses.

and some other rubish but which contained something to do with the <<[fwd] Re: Just now, go fill a kettle!>> thing.

So, is anyone else getting this rubish or is it just me???

The most common viral files whic arrive with your email are:

.exe
.zip
.cfg
.chk

The most dangerous one is .chk

Is your McAfee up to date?? If not, you need to get the latest definitons off their website.

Virus' dont actually have to be .exe files, they can be anything, so those .dat files sound like viruses to me..

And also, you dont need to have address in your address book for the virus to send itself out, some will pick up e-mails from websites your looking at and e-mail them without you knowing.

It really does sound like a virus to me, so I'd really recommend updating your AV software and looking over the McAfee site to see if you can find out more.

Yeah, I think so.

Tell me, do you get a flashing banner across the top of the page saying "Winner!" and a pop-up window asking for a prize claim when you go to http://gamewinners.com? I do, every time, but I don't know whether to trust it or not.

I've got a Virus Scanning program, and it came back with nothing. I just checked my E-mails and they were downloaded as normal mails do. I don't use the Address Book so haven't got any addresses for any virus to forward itself to. Thing is there were no programs attached to the E-mails either just a couple of .dat files which uselass rubish in.

None of those JS Files seem to be on my computer anywhere, so thats good :o)

I've got McAfee's VirusScan, if thats any help. But I wasn't on any sites, I just checked my E-mail using Outlook Express.

Shall I just put it down to 'one of those things'??

That will only happen if you have addresses in your Contacts or Address Book.

Was you on the internet when this happened?
If so, what site?

If your getting Mailer Demon for addresses you haven't e-mailed then you definetly have a virus. You need some AV software pretty quick, I'd recommend Norton AntiVirus 2002. And do it quick or you'll end up with a lot of unhappy people after you because the virus has sent itself on to them..

Logic would suggest that they are viruses. I often get emails, similar to that, which deposit three viruses on my PC when I open them. Every time, they have been:

JS Seeker
JS Seeker B
JS Exception.Exploit

These are virtually harmless. They don't cause any problems, except taking up the memory required for them to remain on your PC. Don't worry about it. If you do have any concerns though, don't hesitate to ask.

Do you have AV software?
