Have you ever played a game, a great game, one of a kind, which you have thought 'This is the best game ever'. We all have these kinds of feelings, and all for very different games. I mean, I doubt that the majority of people think that Gran Turismo is their most loved game. Anyway, I remember having this feeling when I first played Final Fantasy 7. And with Ape Escape. I absolutely loved these games. They were the kind in which you could play for hours and hours and not even notice.

I haven't had this feeling lately. Perhaps I did with Zelda: Majora's Mask, but not a real loving feeling. I honestly prefer fantasy to reality, heck, that's why we play video games, isn't it, to escape reality? But with games becoming more realistic, I keep finding myself getting frustrated with games, and ones which I truly love are becoming fewer and farther between.

But then I found one. A great game, one which in my opinion is better than MGS2, more immersive than GT3 and beats the living heck out of Final Fantasy 10. What game? Well, its actually Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. Strange, but true. I absolutely love it.
Yesterday, after work, I spent 7 hours playing it. Straight. No breaks, no food, total immersion, long into the night. I remember suddenly realising that it was dark, and that I was squinting to see the flashing screen. Great feeling.

So what games do YOU love. What games do you get completely immersed in. Is realism great, or sucking the creativity out of the industry? What game would you really call a total immersion video game...?

Funny though, because the games you mentioned just happen to be the popular ones. GTA3 I can understand, but SOE? Perhaps if that's to your taste, I spose...

The X-OX is bringing realism even more into video-games and I like it, I am selling my PS2 for an X-BOX becuase the game look great and also play great, the realism adds a special 'TOO TOO' to a game that makes me like them more than others. So for the answer to your thread, yes realism is good in vidoe-games but I also think that it is nice for a bit of origonality in games.
