The premise behind this series which, unlike Terminator Salvation, is set in the present day, is that something has gone a bit wonky with time, meaning that Kyle Reese, originally sent back in time to stop The Terminator, has ended up in an alternate present where Sarah Connor was ready for the original Terminator and, alongside another terminator, played by Arnie, dispatched the aforementioned bad guy.
If you're a Terminator fan, this will make sense to you. If not, you're probably confused as hell by now, which highlights one of the movie's main flaws. It's entertaining enough, with plenty of action sequences and Arnie is back on form, despite being a bit older this time around. However, this relies on you having seen the first two Terminator movies. And if you haven't, then you're going to be confused as heck.
Another negative point is that while the actors playing Kyle Reece (some guy I've never heard of) and Sarah Connor (Emilia Fox, off Game of Thrones) aren't terrible, they have zero chemistry. They supposedly fall in love, and say they have by the end of the movie. Except unlike the original, there's nothing to support this.
So where in the Terminator franchise does Genisys sit, in terms of watchability? Fourth, probably. It's far better than Salvation, but not as good as the first three movies, and not a patch on the first two. It's worth watching when it hits Sky Movies, but not worth going to the cinema for. I won't be bothering with the sequels. It's okayish, but not amazing.
