Something excites me. Not since the launch of the Dreamcast have I been this excited, and that was a long while ago in gaming terms. My hopes are up and my spirits are high, for pretty soon I will be the proud owner of a new Nintendo console, and more importantly at the console’s launch.

I missed the last big two launch parties and had to sit quietly on the sidelines. The Playstation 2 is a great machine, but getting one at launch was not an option as I had barely managed to get the Dreamcast and I had other uses for my money at the time, the Xbox, large though it looms in my view of consoles, was not for me when it came out, not at £300 anyway. The Gamecube, though, is a different story.

I have been saving odd pounds here and there, taking part in internet schemes that will remain nameless and generally skimping and saving to have enough money for the Gamecube launch. I have sold my collection of Farscape DVDs and part exchanged several games which I had to prise from my own grasp at the last minute. I’ve only just amassed enough to get the right amount, and why? Well, I need to feel that console launch glow that comes only when you are standing there in the shop, or waiting by your doorstep for the shiny new machine of your dreams to appear on it’s first outing to the country.

The Gamecube isn’t the only console I would ever own, if it was a choice between the main three, I’m still not sure which one I would go for (or, indeed, whether I could bear having only one). For me, it is the fantastic experience of gearing yourself up to receive the pristine new machine while the media buzz is building to a crescendo and all those around you, even those people not in to gaming, start talking about this wonderful new machine. OK, so the Gamecube may not have as big a media frenzy as the Playstation 2 did, but there are good feelings about this dedicated games machine and I just know that I will be happy with it (not least because I’ve already had extensive play on my friend’s import machine).

When the hype has died down and the ticker-tape has dropped to the floor and started to change colour, I will be happily bathed in the warm glow of the picture from my new Cube, and all will be right with the world.

Damn! If I didn't have AS exams then i'd be experiencing that 'launch day feel' too! I've never really felt it before, althogh it was great to get an N64 for my birthday just after it's release, and also realising i was the only person to have one!

Oh well, maybe with the next Nintendo console...
And I also hope to get an X-box in the future, after a price drop or two. But not the PS2!

The Gamecube will be the first console I buy on launch.

The GBA I found in a shop imported, which I bought before everyone else... which was very cool. But never before have I really said "I'm going to be one of the first."

I would be very excited, a LOT more excited... if the damn launch wasn't so far away from the Japan/American. The thought of "not many people have played this" which SHOULD come from the sensation of launch day buying, isn't there.

I think, now though, Nintendo are seeing how serious we can be as gamers.

I am really excited as well, though it has been such a long wait I am sure the next 21 days are really going to drag along. :(
