Hiya all :)

Hoping someone can give me a little help - I want to disable image hotlinking to my site in progress at www.d3rang3d.com but everything I have tried via .htaccess seems not to work. Probably doesn't help I'm pretty new to all this, 6 months ago HTML etc was a foreign lanuage to me.

I've tried all the instantly generated .htaccess rules at http://www.htmlbasix.com/disablehotlinking.shtml as well as many ideas I've found googling, and nothing, no error, but hotlinking to images on d3rang3d is still possible.

Anyone with any ideas would make my day :)

Thanks in advance

Yay, you are brilliant :) - it does work - it was the images cached here, so they showed for me. Just tried a test page with your image on it, and it works, gives the sorry message once I cleared out the browser cache.

Tried again on d3rang3d with the cache cleared, and working there too :)

Thanks a million for the help, really appreciated :)

You have to also clear out your cache/temp internet files if you displayed the image first.

Can you give me a link to a test page on your site where you hotlink to one of my images?

I've tried setting this up and it seems to work (for me!!)...

Found this site for checking 'hotlinking':
http://altlab.com/hotlinking.html
All you get is my 'sorry' image then you try to link to:

Thanks for the try Hmmm... - but still not working. Edited your code for d3rang3d.com and hotlinking still worked. Tried hotlinking to images on your site and was also able to do that, so I guess neither of us have had success preventing hotlinking yet

Hi Sinnocent,
The syntax is MAD! There are lots of ways of doing this.
I think I've got it working using this code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?hmmm\.ip3\.co\.uk/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg)$ http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/sorry.png [R,L]

Try hotlinking to any images on my site www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk or use this one:
http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/adsl-snr/st585v6.jpg
Instead of getting a router picture you should see a "sorry" image.

When you test you need to create a real hotlink from another site as it's working on the http_referer.

Hope this helps...
