Someone on PM has already mentioned this, but I'll continue...

From Yahoo news:
"Writer Terry Pratchett has revealed that he has a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's disease.

In a statement on a website, the bestselling author called the diagnosis "an embuggerance" and said the condition was behind a"phantom stroke" he had in the summer.

He said: "We are taking it fairly philosophically down here and possibly with a mild optimism.

"Frankly, I would prefer it if people kept things cheerful, because I think there's time for at least a few more books yet."

He added: "PS: I would just like to draw attention to everyone reading the above that this should be interpreted as 'I am not dead'.

"I will, of course, be dead at some future point, as will everybody else. For me, this may be further off than you think - it's too soon to tell."

Pratchett has sold more than 55 million books worldwide and is most famous for his Discworld series of fantasy novels."

Sad for the fans who want the series to continue, but more importantly, sad news for Pratchett's family and for him. Imagine knowing you're going to have Alzheimer's sometime in the near future? That must be pretty scary.
