Today I heard a rumour that the PS2 would not come supplied with a controller. I immediately contacted Sony to find out if it was true and was told by a Sony rep that the rumour was totally unfounded and that each PS2 pack will have a controller.

It started me thinking. Ever since I heard of the PS2's existence I have been following all the stories, the hype and the rumours. I have been through the highs (like the MGS2 trailer) and the lows (the month of worry awaiting my pre-order confirmation from Sony). Every single day I browse the same sites to see what the latest news is on the PS2 and read the latest reviews of the UK code.

What I am wondering is has all this hype and all these rumours left people all PS2'd out?? I have at times felt exacerbated, annoyed and even fed up with the amount of fumbles and slipups that Sony have made BUT I am still as desperate to get my hands on my PS2 as I have ever been (probably more so since seeing SSX).

I know many people think that the lack of PS2's this Christmas will result in Sony losing out to Sega, as people buy what is available. That may be true over the christmas period but Sony will soon regain that ground. What interests me is whether all these shenanigans by Sony have even managed to put off some of the real gamers out there. The sort of people who research their choice of system and follow the latest developments. The sort of people that read this sort of thing.

So, what is your opinion?? Are you still eager to get your mitts on the PS2 or have you lost all enthusiasm??

Babylonian,

Yes its sad to say that I was taken in by this rumour but after the fact of no memory card being packaged I thought it might be true. I hope you are right about the memory card by the way as that would save me some money.

You, like me are mad enough (or committed enough) to take the rough with the smooth it would appear. I am still desperate to get my hands on the PS2 and at times I must admit that I enjoy all the hype and speculation. When the PS2 was released in Japan in March, the amount of info about it on the net was relatively small and I had to search to find info. Now there is a veritable tidal wave of info and I enjoy reading everyones opinions and the latest gossip.

I take them all at face value of course as I will make up my own mind when I get my PS2 BUT unfortunately I could never afford to buy all the games that appeal to me so I have to trust others opinions sometimes. I tend to read a lot of reviews on each game I am interested in and see what sort of average it manages.

I would be interested to read your opinions of any games when you have played them on your new PS2's so I know what to get next. I will be sure to post mine, for what they are worth.

Ooh, I'm surprised you were duped by that one, Matt. That would be absolute suicide by any console manufacturer. I did hear that it wouldn't have a memory card, but the latest I've heard is that there will be a card in the pack.

There have been stacks of rumours. Very few turned out to be true, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if several had been started by rivals, or fans of rivals in influential positions in the games industry.

Difficult to say. I suppose some will be frustrated enough to change paths, but I think most people who really know what they want will stick with it. If there's one thing I have learned in all my years of gaming, it's that if you *really* want something, it's always worth waiting for. Well, it is for me, anyway!

I've been waiting on it since March 1999, and I ain't giving up now!
