Is it me or do lots of talented directors get more of a chance now a days?

Take Spiderman. Sam Raimi is a great director, the camera is always busy and we get to places that most directors do not dare. Although Raimi has tamed himself for films such as The Gift and A Perfect Plan, he still shows a talent that makes Spilberg and Lucas look like old money hungry men. Oh, hang on. They all ready are, never mind. Anyway, after seeing the new Spiderman trailer i was delighted to see the old Raimi back at work, he used a great camera movement that mimiced Spiderman's swing.

Fincher is another prime example. Starting off by doing music videos such as Madonna's Vogue and then moving onto Alien3, most would have left Fincher in the lurch. For some reason he got a second chance. This then gave him the chance to treat us with films such as Fight Club, Se7en, and The Game.

I am glad that these directors have been given a window into mainstream filmmaking, as they are both truely talented directors and i think it is safe to say that they are modern day Scosesee's and Hitckcocks.

Hollywood, bless you for not constantly picking the same old directors and for give fincher a second chance and giving Raimi the credit he deserves.

Spilberg you best hurry up and do Indy 4 because it looks like people are getting bored of you, and Lucas... well, Episode 2 is your last chance to redeem yourself as a filmmakker.

Before people start flying off the handle about Lucas making films for himself, and Spilberg adjusting to a new style i just wanna say, i on't care how bad a film is story wise. I look at directors work visually, films such as the original star wars were filmed in a more lively way. Ep 1 was boring because the camera was basic Hollywood style. Take Evil Dead for example, it has a very cheesey storyline but te film is visually entertaining.

So come on all boring directors! chuck away your directing for dummies book. Get out there and give us some films we can watch and think wow!!!

i here ya.

Sometimes simple does work. But it is nice to see s bit of difference. Take BROTHER, beat takishi's first US film. Simply done, but it still has a few simple effects.

And thanks for the recommendations, i will looks them films and directors up.

If you wanna watch a master director at work, rent or buy any Akira Kurowsawa film - this guy is pure genius! Any budding film-makers out there, indulge yourselves in one of his earliest "Drunken Angel" - although, not one of his most acclaimed films, this one, alone, will have you craving to direct!

I realise you are looking for something spectacular, but to be fair, sometimes the simplest of direction can produce some amazing results!

If Kurowsawa had been a Westerner he'd have been a household name across the world! Similarly, if Toshiro Mifune had been a Western actor, he'd have been a world-wide giant! Some actors are good actors, some are moviestars - Mifune would've been both!
