First question, I have my domain and hosting both with Freeola, the address is www.midnightsession.co.uk , however when i go to the site it seems to redirect to
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/
Has he hosted the site someone where on dropbox? Or is this standard Freeola practice?
Second question, he built the site in Droopal, yet I am completely unable to access the droopal admin page, in part because I don't know if the site is hosted at midnightsession.co.uk or on the dropbox link?
Any info, guidance or insults related to any of the questions will be a step forward, and greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
I renamed the .htaccess file to old.htaccess and it broke the redirect, so at least i know where the problem is.
Now having worked in joomla an awful lot more than drupal I have decided to start from scratch and rebuild the site in Joomla and just disregard the current site as it seems more hassle than its worth trying to get everything back to one place!
Thanks for your help guys!
I'm not saying anything malicious has happened...
dropboxusercontent.com looks legitish - but it's a little hard to tell the way it's been setup!
But it seems to be registered to Dropbox, Inc.
BUT I can see the numerous user folders often do seem to contain malware or are mentioned for it!
I'm not a dropbox user so haven't looked here before!
You would think that dropbox could have done a better job setting things up for visitors that look at the root URL - if it is theirs.
My 'NB' was just a heads up that Drupal users need to check they aren't open to this new threat.
[s]Hmmm...[/s]EDIT: This dropbox Help Page says that this URL is theirs:
URLs used to host user data:
The paths below are used to host content for users when they create links to their folders and files (for example, using Dropbox links). Dropbox does not use these paths to ask you for private or personal information.
dl.dropboxusercontent.com/*
Visiting dl.dropboxusercontent.com returns a dropbox 404 error.
Visiting dropboxusercontent.com fails to display anything.
I'm just a "Mickey Mouse" bod scrapping a living from the internet - but I wouldn't set things up like this if I owned a multi million dollar corporation! :¬P
It looks as though something malicious has made it's way onto your site, but for what purpose I couldn't say. Freeola have nothing to do with dropbox, nor do we use it for any reason, so unless your web designer friend has set this up specifically in this fashion (not sure really why he would have done!), then I can only assume that someone has managed to introduce a redirect somewhere.
I'd suggest the best thing to do would be to upload a fresh copy of your site. Ask your designer if he still has the original files, then clear out the existing site and re-upload. Once you've done that, run any updates that are available, as these will generally seal up any security flaws with the CMS you're using.
No the dropbox connection isn't a Freeola thing.
Your site could be being redirected in a number of ways.
I would start by logging in to your MyFreeola account and using the View/Edit Domain Details link to see if 'redirection' has been put in place there.
Once you get the details up look for "Web forwarding". If it's in place you can cancel it using the available options.
If it's not in place you will need to use FTP to view the files that have been put in place in your Freeola webspace.
There will most likely be a .htaccess file which is performing the redirection, but it could be being carried out by different means.
If you see a .htaccess file try renaming it to old.htaccess to see if that breaks the redirection.
If you are going to explore the Drupal CMS then it looks like everything will most likely be on the dropbox address.
NB. Worth looking at Freeola's Status page for news on the recent Drupal security alert!
Let us know how you get on or if you get stuck :¬)
[s]Hmmm...[/s]EDIT Drupal/Drooooooooopal corrections!
