31|12/10/2007 12:43:38 |24.64.11.167:23572 |ACCESS BLOCK
Its a part of the log from my router, I know its blocking it but what is it? no one was in when this happened and all pc were off, is this some one or some thing trying to steal my money? or pity help them steal my identity!

You shouldn't have to worry too much, the Zyxel firewall is pretty good. It's IPTables based and does a good job. My Zyxel router logs blocked access regularly, it means it's doing what it's meant to do. As long as you only open up ports from the WAN to LAN you actually need (very few for a home connection, maybe only for online games) and also open up ports from LAN to WAN you need then you should be ok. If you enable uPnP then software such as MSN Messenger can negotiate its own firewall rules with the router as and when it needs them.

I looked at that address - it related to one of the gateways on Central 3 of your Freeola adsl connection.

As long as your logs are not been flooded with blocked intrusions I wouldn't worry.

I see so this is perhaps an opertunist trying to hack in to our network? but NAT and the firewall is blocking them? am I thinking along the right lines? So this blocking is a good thing yes? and no need to worry about it?

Your router is connected to the internet and has it's own IP address - this doesn't change whether your PC's are on or not.

Hi Hmmmm
well I noticed it first a few days ago, when I had my logs set to daily, the report only had times from 2300hrs to about midnight, I thought that was strange in its self so yesterday i set it to hourly, knowing I was away at work from lunch time yesterday till about 2pm today, and all in all most things are access fwd, but today my youngest left for college at 7.30 his PC is off I have been at work and Mrs Digi is away to the races since 9AM this morning and the logs since 10am till I arrived there were loads and loads of these access denied things yet no PCs on and no one in SCARY

Haven't got time to look around at the moment - but the 84.xx.xxx.250 is your IP address so you might want to remove that from the post.

W to W/Prestige I believe is the internet (Wan) inbound to your router (Zyxel Pestige).

As you say the Nat firewall is blocking everything.

People/scripts do try to look at different IP addresses, that's why a firewall is important. Is the log continuously reporting this or is this just a short episode?
