Hi All

Just popped in to check on a domain I have still hosted here and remember having some very intelligent exchanges with the people on this forum so thought I'd ask here.

Am looking to develop my career onward from the job I've held for the past 12 years, I want to move more into the operations side of things and work for a managed services provider.

A lot of these roles seem to want SQL admin skills and although I do a little bit of server admin in my current role this doesn't include SQL.

Anyone know of any Internet training providers that run these type of courses but don't charge a small mortgage or would I be better off renting a couple of VPS instances, installing it myself and playing about? (don't have the room at home for additional hardware to do this)

Not sure what's best here really. I did SQL stuff at uni and then just taught myself more MySQL as it's what we use here. My initial grounding was using Oracle though, although they own MySQL now as well. Plenty of courses out there, such as https://mariadb.com/services/mariadb-mysql-training (MariaDB is spin-off of MySQL, create by the MySQL creator when Oracle aquired MySQL, it's backward compatible).

Hi pctech ... it's been a few months, but nice to hear from you again :¬)

I'm sure that some technically minded person may be along to provide an answer ... as soon as they've seen it ;¬)

Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
