Iraq has today suspended oil exports for 30 days or until Israel unconditionally withdraws. US networks are running the story but the BBC and SKY are understnadably occupied elsewhere. This is bad news, make no mistake. When Israel today withdrew from two areas - albeit a token gesture - oil prices fell slightly but this move by Iraq, combined with a strike in Venezuela is already sending them higher. See it on BBC website below.

Tony Blair has just returned from the USA where his main speech was that "We should not shirk from confronting other countries building up weapons of mass destruction."

Iraq is clearly doing so. If it wants to prove otherwise it simply has to allow UN weapons inspectors in - the USA has indicated it would accept none US/UK inspectors doing so - to any sites that the UN chooses and with no warning. At the moment Iraq will only accept UN inspectors if IRaq is told beforehand where they are visiting. Bear in mind these would be UN inspectors - not American or British - so they would be less zealous than maybe UK/US people, but still Iraq wants warning of their arrival. This isn't acceptable and shows Iraq has something to hide.

For all those whining that Iraq is the victim of US/UK aggression tell me this - why does Iraq need to know where inspectors are going if there is nothing to hide ?

This latest move by Iraq acts as more provocation and further threatens to split the Middle East. Estimates by www.fas.org suggest that Iraq's weapons of mass destruction are probably not near completion just yet and that their nuclear capability is in its infant stage. I say that this capability should be reduced back to the stone age.

Clearly action against Iraq is now "when" not "if". Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see bombs falling onto Iraq because however careful an assault is civilians will die, and so will people on both sides. Sometimes force is the only option and if we want to never see a repeat of 9/11 then we've got to be prepared to back this kind of action against countries who hold no respect for diplomacy or human life.

One of George W's ambitions is surely to correct his fathers mistake in not completing the job and removing saddam.

He is waiting for a reason good enough to take to nato and maybe he now has it.

We do not want or need any more wars but Saddam cannot be allowed to carry on with his plans for world domination.
