I have a google sites website that i have been developing for a number of years. I now wish to attach the Freeola domain that I have just purchased to the website.

I cant seem to work out how to do it?

The domain is;
andrew-lohmann.me.uk

There are two websites are;
https://sites.google.com/site/engineerperspective/
https://sites.google.com/site/andrewhlohmann/

Having read Google help I find that it does not help. Google apps is suggested for business user. but I am not a business user so Google Apps is not an option and I doubt that that it would do anything for me.

I have tried a number of Wiki type web hosting and Google did at the time and still does what I want. I have many pages which have taken me many years to develop and I have switched host a number of times over many years I don't wish to do that at this stage. I have also evaluated Freeola in the past.

Here are my notes. This is an advanced method of setting up sub-domains;

Hello

Thanks I have now got there.

There was one more step (my previous posting about missing things) it was; to paste from google help page; ghs.googlehosted.com Into the CNAME for each sub domain. Then Google sites take care of which of my hosted websites a visitor sees. (There is a google sites management option called add web address - I can add many as long as they are verified)

I shall straighten out the steps I took. Then make a notes and raise a ticket as you suggest.

My new freeola domain works up to a point, only sub domains lead visitors to my website the raw; andrew-lohmann.me.uk at the present time results in a server not found error.

Thunderbird is now receiving pop mail from Freeola. It was not related to this issue but the security setting needed to be set to none.

Once again
Thanks

EDIT:
Looks like you are 'up and running' now... :¬)

You might like to raise a Support Ticket to Freeola to ask if they can check your changes if they don't pick things up from the forum?

Thanks.

Those delays are confusing. Although I new there would be some (mention of 72 hrs I have seen in help somewhere) when you do things there is no note you may have to wait on Freeola. So I try something else undoing what I have done (I don't know what or if I had undone anything).

My Freeola email addresses now work Security needed to be set to none. I included mention of that because it could have been connected with the domain registration with the google hosted website.

Freeola offer IP or CNAME (which it turns out I could not use)
myname.xxx - only offer IP
But
www.myname.xxx - offers both but the difference is not described at the point you do that.

No problem, glad I could help!

If all the changes are correct then you might have to wait up to 24 hours for the DNS to propagate.

How I have got on so far;

GetDots and Freeola was not one that Google list so you need to use a setting called "other"

http://www.andrew-lohmann.me.uk
because this is a WWW it was possible to attempt change DNS server ( Create/Modify Custom Web DNS Records (Advanced) ) CNAME method. Freeola warning that it has not worked and Google Webmaster confirmed that that verification method had failed.

http://andrew-lohmann.me.uk
I used the method called change DNS record * Create/Modify TXT and SPF records (Advanced) then pasted text provided by Google Webmaster verify website. This verified both variants of domain name google webmaster reports.

Confusingly there is a delay between setting up the verification and the verification occuring. I returned after 3 hours and the verification had occurred. I could then add the domains to the google sites hosts.

I run two Google sites and I added one domain in one and the other www variant in the other.

The domain when entered into my browser reports that the server was not found. So I am waiting for something to happen or is there another step?

I also have two freeola pop email accounts they have received test emails I had sent them but at the moment Thunderbird has not received email from them. I expect that that is an unconnected issue.
