Hi, me and my friend are about to start making a website for a community college near us and would like to make it look good not just one that looks like it could be created in a few minutes.

So the main reason i posted this is cause i wanted to know what websites or tutorial you used to create your websites and how you made them look good and not just look like an average run of the mill website.

Also Where you got any extra's for it from like buttons or little applications stuff like that.

Thanks For you time.

My favourite site for learning the code to write a web site is at: http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com

A nice place to start is http://www.webmonkey.com for hints, tips and basic tutorials on lots of different areas to consider when building a site.

This is a great point, take a look at some sites that are simaler to what you want to do, and that work well and look good, then just learn from them. You don't even need to 'steal' the code, as long as you can understand how the page was built and what makes it good, you should be able to build something like it yourself.

Won't a community page need a lot of updating?

I think CSS is a great little thing, makes hyperlinks more interactive, rollovers...etc.

I've never used any tutorials for html, always steal other peoples source and learn from it :p

I find that quite useful if theres something i'm not too sure on.

Javascript will make your site look nice, but good images are essential, get a copy of Fireworks 4 if you havn't already, and have a mess around with that.

I use books such as the "Sams Teach Yourself in 24 hours" series, for HTML, PHP, JavaScript .... I have one forPer and Java but don't use them, waste of money really.

Buttons and all are usually created by myself and/or friends, as I'm not the best at making images on computers.

I find the best way to make a good site is to search sites on the Subject your making yours on, and see how they do theres.
