Now many successful games contain duos. The Mario series contains Mario and his brother Luigi. The recent record breaking MGS2 with the duo of Solid Snake and Hal Emmerich. The recent hit plat-former game Jak and Daxter, has Jak, a silent young hero, and Daxter, a young squirrel. There are hundreds of different duos in the world of gaming and they are all successful. Does the fact that there are two people in a game make it more appealing to the public? Is it because of the fact that there are two people to choose from or the fact that the game is high in quality? Duos have lasted for ages; Mario and Luigi have been around for decades and are still as successful now as when they were first created. Many things have flopped after being the biggest thing around. Pokemon was all over the playgrounds with the Trading Card Game. The shops were full of the stupid bits of cardboard, go into a shop now and they wont be there or they will be at the price of 50p. But Mario and Luigi are still in many games. Many other characters in recent games join them, the hit fighting game “Super Smash Bros” was a great game. I like it because of the great game play, graphics and the variety of characters. I just wonder if a lot of people bought it because it contained Mario and Luigi, Pikachu and Link. Do the characters in games decide the amount of copies a game sells?

No - It's not the fact that there is a duo involved that makes the game, it comes down to how well the developers have put the thing together in the first place. Duo's are ok as well as they interact properly and actually serve a purpose or make a difference to the gameplay itself. i.e. Spyro where the firefly (forgotten the name) actually has a role to play in the game.

Some games use the idea of a duo to try and enhance the gameplay totally uneccessarily - i.e platformers where one character has different moves to another so you need to swap character to complete a certain level. The game would be no different with one character who had a bigger range of moves.

There are plenty of great games out there without duo's involved to indicate that duo's in themselves are not an important factor, but used wisely they can add to the experience.

No, no they don't. Well it's obviously the market there selling to in my view it depends how that market reacts to the games itself and the image in which each game creates. That wat makes them popular or flops.
