Now, don't get me wrong, bikes are all well and good for getting some exercise and fresh air, but racing? They fall over so easily, hurt your bum and are just, well, a little bit safe.
So, I propose a new Tour De France...in Minis.
Ok, so the French may be a bit moany about such British cars, so let them use 2CVs and the Italians can choose Fiat 500s if they want. But wouldn't that be such a better spectacle? Tearing down country roads in a mini, jostling for position?
Having already bombed down country roads in a mini in my time, I can tell you in all certainty that it gets far more blood pumping around the body than one of those 2 wheeled things you need to peddle, especially when there's a tractor in the way round a blind bend.
Thoughts?
...and they went to an ad break. Missed us entirely.
Didn't we as a nation spend most of last year proving that we have some of the worst roads in Europe to ride a bike on?
...So now we're showing the world, I presume?
While I totally agree with chas and others ... the main part of this bit of 'La Tour' was through some stunning and delightful countryside ... the downside, and the one bit I wanted to watch, was the 'Sheffield' bit!
Bad roads, pot holes, canyons ... Shefield has them all and believe me the roads 'La Tour' raced on had very recently been resurfaced, especially Minna Rd and Burngreave Rd and Gower St ... you needed 'pit gear' to travel those roads. These roads were so bad, that there were 'night stops' every 100 yds to rest and repair damaged vehicles and to replenish stores...it was akin to scaling Everest but without the sherpas!

To be fair dave, the name is misleading and seems to be the subject of recent conversation ... leave it in France. After all, thought we had the Milk Race, which was in effect the Tour of Britain.
I can't say I've heard of the Milk Race but perhaps another example of a misleading title for a cycling event.
Well there you go ... Was Nationwide
and ... ... what it was ...

The race cut across the top of the housing estate where I live today. Going by previous events, I 'm surprised it wasn't a bit like a live version of "Duck Hunt" for some of the residents...
Good job they didn't stop for a break at that point, 'cos they'd have all come back to find their bikes were gone.

Bit unfair pb ... minis have a bigger engine size then the 2CV and Fiat 500 :¬)
Shhhhh! They don't need to know that bit.
I don't have an issue with the mode of transport but I do think the name of the event is a little misleading.
