Is it possible not to display the name or a registrant using the free opt-out WHOIS option for co.uk domains?
In a few places you mention 'hide your details entirely' -
i.e. From secure.freeola.com/myfreeola-control-panel/ [space] whois_privacy/domains_ privacy_single.php?domain=*mydomain*.co.uk
"About WHOIS Privacy
For .uk domains you can opt-out of the WHOIS database for FREE, which will hide your details entirely from public view. More information on WHOIS Privacy can be found here."
Or from here: http://getdotted.com/domain-privacy/ -
"Domain WHOIS opt-out completely prevents your personal details from appearing on the public WHOIS Database. Instead, anyone that views the WHOIS record for your domain will be told you've opted to prevent your details from appearing."
But when I perform a WHOIS a name is still displayed?
Surely your name comes under 'personal details'?
I'm looking at domains registered a number of years ago so perhaps new domains are better protected?
Any advice would be appreciated before I register a new co.uk for someone that doesn't want their name on show.
Thanks,
[s]Hmmm...[/s] I thought that was how things worked - definitely worth updating the website information to clear things up.
[s]Hmmm...[/s] Privacy for .uk domains only removes the address from the WHOIS. It is only applicable to non-trading individuals and will not hide the registrant.
I will forward this thread onto our marketing people for them to consider updating the text on the various pages it appears.
