I think playing my mates on a multiplayer game gets me away from reality, driving down small streets running over people or hitting chickens with a big sword! has anyone visited Pikachumustdie.com?? it's cool, especially when you progress through the harder levels, 3 in all.

The fact that they are limited is all part of the fun though isnt it. I mean games are the greatest form of escapism. You can escape into a world where you control what is going on and there are never any horrible surprises waiting for you around the corner (unless of course you have suffered PC gaming, like me and the games crash on you). Nothing too unexpected happens and you can leave when ever you want.

I mean doesnt everyone want to pummel someones face in at some point in their life (usualy at least once a day on the tube in my case) but you wouldnt want to do it in real life as it can get very messy and very painful. Videogames help us to take out our pent up agression and exercise our over constrained imaginations in a safe manner.

They are also social (contrary to popular belief) as many people get together to race or shoot their mates whilst consuming ludicrous amounts of booze (strictly over 18's of course!!). Much more social and safer to get bladdered at home whilst shooting your mates than getting drunk in the pub and proving how macho you are by picking a fight on your way home.

Everybody needs a fantasy world to escape into and whether you find it in books, TV, films or games it does not matter. Escapism is a healthy thing and I am not just saying that because I love to play games for hours on end (or am I??)

Actually, I thought prunes were a way of letting yourself go....annnnnnyway....

Fantasy worlds created for games are a bit limiting aren't they? If only all the games you played could be linked together somehow, you could have Lara Croft shooting her way through the fairground from themepark, while avoiding people being sick on the floor.

In RC Tycoon, I pick up people which are unhappy, and put them on a island. Usually I just leave them on there, but sometimes I build a ride, which is their only means of escape...
(I personnaly like drowning anyone who hates my park. Love it or die, I say.)

Yes gaming let's you do whatever you want, except some other stuff, like peeping at the girls toilets! Only joking!
Games allow you freely to roam the area without any stopping, to go to the loo, the characters don't need to!
I can think of games like Deus Ex, let's you do whatever you want, however shooting someone innocent might lead to huge metal drones and hundred's of people coming to gun you down!
Many games have restrictions to it. RC Tycoon somehow allows you to drown the customers! Alot of RPG's allow to let you explore the whole of their world and listen to the jabbering from the villagers. Exploring the worlds may not be fun for all but no police (eh maybe not) in most games stop you from gunning down people or reaching 150mph with your super fast car or carrying a huge sword around your local town.
A good old, free rolling game is what we like.
