Am I the only one who, really, really, really hates exclamation marks?

Even one of them. Eg:

"I had a great time!"

It's disgusting. I just can't stand it at all. You know how really ordinary boring people try to make themselves stand out all the time? That's how I see it. Boring statement, with an exclamation mark to make it seem more important than it really is.

And don't get me started on using more than one to end a sentence.

I hate exclamation marks.

I use them quite regularly actually...not too many, but enough to make a point that I'm excited about something.

Does this mean we can't use explanation marks?!

I think the News Monkey is acceptable to putting a lot of !!'s into sentences when writing his news reports too. I'll have to have a go at him about that.
