Does anyone out there remember the barcode boy. It was a handheld system like that looked similar to the gamegear in shape (as far as I can remember) and as the name suggests the games used barcodes.

The point was that people would search around looking for the barcodes on products and scan them in. Different barcodes would translate into different health points etc and you could make you characters fight with other barcode boy owners. As far as I remember it was a turn based affair and when it first appeared it was a real craze. Funnily enough though it died almost as quickly as it had begun.

My friend purchased one and I am going from what I can remember from his. I would have got one but I could never make up my mind whether it was worth it and it died a death before I got one (luckily for me).

Anyway, just a trip down memory lane for me there. Anyone else remember this short lived console (using the term incredibly loosly)

I think you are probably right about the name!!

I am glad that I am not the only person who remembers it and thank you for putting my mind at rest. I thought that I may have imagined the whole thing and what sort of scary imagination could come up with such an idea.

Oh, hold on, someone did didnt they. Probably in a padded cell by now. Or in prison for shoplifting after trying to feed their 'barcode' habit.

Scary!!!

Yes, I remember them, wasn't it called a Barcode Battler though? Didn't you scan in the barcode, and it would create stats from it, which which you could "battle" against your friends with.

Just imagine..

My tin of Tesco Value Plum Tomatoes

vs

Your Duck and Heart Pedigree Chum

I can't believe anyone bough it! Especially after it was featured on Blue Peter. Anything that gets on that show immediately looses all credibility!
