1. The Pro-product Gamers Opinion.
There are many people here who devote their time promoting, boasting and bragging about their favourite consoles and how they beat all the rest. They believe their chosen console can have no errors, have loading times second to none, and have all the best games. They for some reason think that their console will always be on the top of the saes charts, always have the newest technology, and they will never tire of playing on them. Ofcourse this applies to games and peripherals too, but you'll notice the symptoms a lot more easily when people are talking about consoles.
Here's an example paragraph of what the Pro-product gamer may say:
The GameCube is brilliant! It's 128-bit, and has superb graphics in all it's games! Say goobye to loading times as Nintendo have gotten rid of cartridges and are now using eigh centimetre optical discs which is good because they're impossible to copy! The controle is much better than the X-cardboard box and the Graystation poo as it is smaller andmer comfortable to use and you can buy ones called Wavebird which are wireless and us infrared to allow you to play. The GameCube is going to be great with the price of £150 and cheap games and peripherals, I can't wait!
2. The Anti-product Gamer's Opinion.
This is usually the exact opposite of the Pro-gamer's opinion and you'll see this quite a lot in the Nintendo forum and usually by Playstation 2 and/or X-box fans. The Anti-product gamer will usually have very strong opinions against a console and will swear to aev played all the games, including the ones which have only just been confirmed for dvlopment. They will make up stupid reasons as to why the product in question will not sl on the market, and when those reasons are proved wrong, they will start replying wit erbal abuse towards the person who got the better of them. Now although I said this i usually done by Sony and Microsoft fans, it still happens with Nintendo fans too, but yo often find they are ignored as these messages are not worth the pixels used to creat them.
Here is an example paragraph of an Anti-product Gamer's opinion:
The GameCube is rubbish! It doesn't have a hard-drive and can't play DVD's. Plus the dic are too small you might lose them down the back of the sofa. But the main reason th GameCube is going to die like the N64 before it, is because it is a kiddies console. The aren't any games designed for over 10s and deep down you Nintendo fans know it. Allte Mario games are exactly the same, full of fat Italian oplumbers and cutesy graphics And ofcourse there's Pokemon! Pokemon is dead! It'll never return! Why do you think tht anyone will want to play those rubbish games? They are full of hairy little monsters wo live in tiny little balls, who thought of that rubbish idea? The controller is uncomfortble, and the GameCube itself is just so small! And the handle! Just look, it's got a hanle! As I said, there are no adult games like Metal Gear Solid 2 on the Playstation 2, Halo on the X-box, or The Tweenies on the PSX! I don't know how you Nintendo fans can lie with yourself playing such babyish toys! Grow up!
3. The unbiased gamer.
Now nobody is 100% unbiased. That's impossible. However you can try to be as unbiased as you can, keeping an open mind and testing the games and consoles for yourself befr giving judgement. sadly you don't see many of these gamers around, on or off the Spcal Reserve community boards. I spoke to an old friend whom I hadn't seen for yearsjust after the GameCube was announced. I told him I thought it was going to be great, Nitendo's chance to make up for their mistakes that they made with the N64. He totally dismissed every comment I made and kept on saying that the Playstation 2 will easily bea it. I couldn't give him many details about the GameCube ayway, being so early in thecnosoles development, so how he got his opinions against it without giving it a chance I don't know. But that's what most gamers are like. I admit I used to be like that and around a year ago would never have played the Dreamcast. But I managed to play on a friend's Dreamcast which made me change my mind completely about the console and no,ater buying one from Special Reserve just before Christmas, I have a Dreamcast with 1 ames! Anyway, back to the point, the unbiased gamer will try the products first, then wigh up the good and the bad points before making a decision. However, you';ll often fin that these opinions are just ignored or dismissed by the Anti-product gamers, and yo'l wonder why you wasted your breath.
Here's an example paragraph of an Unbiased gamer's opinion:
The Nintendo GameCube is a games console designed by Nintendo's very own games creator Shigeru Miyamoto. He, being a gaming enthusiast himself created the console to howhe though was best for the gamers, listening to the advice given from those who didn' like particular features of the N64. He created a console for the games, instead of th games being created for the console, and it clearly shows. The GameCube, unlike it's rivals the Playstation 2 and X-box, has no DVD playback features, however this means that Nintendo have been able to keep costs low and sell the console at what you'd normlly expect to be a reduced price. The controller itself just seems to fit in the hand, though with gamers in Japan complaining about one of the kidney-shaped buttons beforethe final design was mass produced, we now have a small "B" button which sadly doesn't feel right. Again, Mr. Miyamoto must've forgotten what the point in the Z-trigger buon was for on the N64, as he has just made it into an "R-2" button like on the Playstation 2. Though this machine hasn't got the most impressive technical specs when on pap, it does have the best specifications for what it has been designed for: games. Infact, gmes are what Nintendo certainly aren't lacking this time round as they have won the hearts of many developers who find it ever so simple to port their Playstation 2 masterpiecs to the GameCube using the GameCube development kits.
I could have gone on a lot more, being a Nintendo fan and having a lot of Nintendo knowldge, but this is only meant to be an example. As you can see, I was pro-Nintendo in thtparagraph, but I have played on the GameCube and after weighing up the pros and con,I really really like it and hope it will be successful in the UK. You'll never get a compltly unbiased approach to a console, as quite honestly, that would be a boring read, but you can use your opinions in a more intelligent way which causes discussion about issusyou have raised instead of arguments about petty commentas made by the complete pr nd anti-product gamers.
Nobody is perfect though, and I'm sure you'll find mistakes in what I have said above. Mn people only fit into these catagories to a certain degree. Eeryone is bound to be sligty for or against the product they are talking about, and you will be able to tell this most probably from their first sentance. But as long as they use their noggins, give fair opinions and make sure they've tested whatever they're talking about, then they'll get good responses back whether they be agreeing or disagreeing.
(Sorry if there are a lot of spelling mistakes. I'm using my Dreamcast to type this and a anyone here with their Dreamcasts online will know it's pretty hard to see what you'r typing with the DreamKey browser).
If he's going to try and put down Nintendo for petty reasons, then he deserves what he gets :)

the what...? Dic? :D that was an interesting 'mistake' there
> ;-)
lol, honestly didn't mean to do that :)
As I said at the bottom of the message, it's flaming hard trying to type with the Dreamcast with the extremely low resolution it displays on the TV. (Whether it's because there are less pixels on a TV or whether it's the browser I don't know).
Anyway, I hope people see me as a mixture of types 1 and 3. I'm obviously pro-Nintendo as most of you who have been to the Nintendo forum will see, but I do try to be as unbiased as possible in my approach to either consoles I dislike or consoles I don't own. I will always try a game or console first before judging it, and will keep an open mind. I never trust images in magazines as they're either enhanced like a lot of Game Boy magazines do, or they're a bit blurry because the printing doesn't match the image exactly.
Now I dislike the X-box after playing it, but I do take the unbiased approach to other peoples opinions, especially on Codejunkies where I'm an administrator on the board so I have to read most messages on there anyway. I will stick up for Nintendo with the type 1 approach however, if somebody uses the type 2 approach in dismissing the company and it's consoles.
It's the only way the type 2's understand. If you look in the Nintendo forum right now, there are many posts by one or two members just saying the GameCube has no games for the over 10s (that's what inspired me to post this topic in the first place)! I'm sure Capcom would have to disagree there, as would Nintendo themselves seeing as they make their games for a wide audience.
If you've only played Kirby 64, I can understand your approach if you're a type 2 gamer. However, one game doesn't mean the console is universally for the under 10 year olds! Surely these gamers know there are games like The Tweenies on the Playstation, and have seen their cutish cartoony games such as the Crash Bandicoot series and the Spyrou the Dragon series.
If there is anyone here who is purely type 3, I suggest they get out a bit more, or take notice of some strong opinions for and against consoles, as it has already been said it would be very very boring to read a totally unbiased message. Intelligence can still be added to these forums though, even if you do have strong opinions, though many (not all) who post messages against the GameCube, the Playstation 2, or even indeed the X-box, seem to lack this quality.
> I don't get it?
It's 9:37am.
9:38 actually. :-)
> Yeah, a garbage truck for the GameCube :-D
well, if we're going into 'anti-product gamer' mode then the Xbox musta come of a blummin HUGE truck... in fact, I don't think there's a truck big enough to carry an Xbox, and if it fell off the back of a truck it'd probably cause an earthquake!!!
*reverts to unbiased gamer mode*
It's 9:37am.
> Yeah, a garbage truck for the GameCube :-D
Excellent! That SO made me laugh. :-)
