That's right, I looked to the stars. With Mystic Meg unavailable, I went for the next best option, and asked Russel Grant to use his in depth knowledge of the future to tell me how each console will fare....
Firstly, the Playstation 2. Released on the 24th November it's a very early Sagittarius, which is a fire sign, and to be quite honest, this just doesn't suit a games console. The typical Sagittarius has a restless nature, and loves to be outdoors. You can't keep a games console outdoors without leading to some serious problems. A Sagittarius also has a fortunate nature, which was apparent with titles like GT3 and GTA3 arriving just in time to stop those that had stood by the console becoming frustrated with a lack of top quality titles. A Sagittarius also likes to keep it's options open, and with a PS2 you'll always have the opportunity of playing a game, or watching a movie.
So what does the future hold for PS2 then? The stars indicate that it's fortunate nature will keep it going, and a consistent alignment with powerful planets will help to draw attention to it whilst the sun passes through other signs and onto other consoles. However, and increasing number of moons are finding themselves pulled into other signs too, and many of the PS2's greatest games may find themsleves also under another sign.
Moving on to Microsoft's Xbox, it is thought that not much thought was put into the release date of the Xbox, as it's mid March release makes it Pisces, a water sign. Some have tried to suggest that the Xbox holds little water in the console market, but I think that Microsoft will prove them wrong. The typical Pisces is adaptable, flexible and creative, as such we should see a wide range of games coming to the system, with plenty of innovation amongst them. Not attacjed to typical forms of worship, the console is unlikely to be a home for mascots, or franchise games, and as such it may have a dependency on the games of third parties.
The stars are showing a slow start for the Xbox, and with the sun moving out of Pisces in the coming weeks it will drop out of the limelight a little. Fortunately it's drawing many moons into the sign from which it will draw a second wave of good quality titles to convince the market that it's a viable option in the long term.
Finally the Gamecube. Many thought it would release in early April, but Nintendo were no doubt wary of the shackles attached to an Aries, and have given it a launch date right in the cenre of the sign Taurus. An Earth sign, it's typical Nintendo. Pleasing to the eye, yet wary of change could have so easy summed up Nintendo consoles of years gone by, but the eventual change to a disc format shows they may be less stubborn than in the past. A very cautious nature, sometimes moving into stubborness, but the retiring of President of Nintendo Yamauchi will no doubt lessen this reputation. A Taurus also likes to build long term relationships, quite apparent with long term deals signed with a number of new second party companies, and new deals with big name third parties such as Square and Capcom.
Looking to the future Nintendo seems keen to stick with tradition. Mario, Link, Samus, Fox and the like will keep the fanbase, equally stubborn as Nintendo themselves, happy in the long term. The sun moving into the sign over the next few weeks should lead to a pleasing launch, though there are serious doubts over whether any of the major moons will cross into Taurus as scheduled, and may turn up late, or not at all.
It's very interesting that all consoles not only fall under different signs, but also under different elements, but this is definitely a good thing for the console market, as it creates a natural balance with nature. The lack of an air sign amonst these consoles is not thought to be a problem, as a quick look over these forums will reveal plenty of hot air floating about regarding all consoles.
Cooky's done a good post in the game ideas forum, though...
I don't know much about star signs and if you made any of that bit up but it seemed to match the console's situations quite well.
What's that supposed to mean?
It's bad enough when people pay good money to hear about their star signs in booths at Blackpool when they could just buy the morning papers....
