What more could they want!!
Aswell as having an almost fully-fit squad to choose 11 men from week-in week-out, they also have a 1 goal advantage over Leverkusen in the Quarter Finals of the Champions' League! And as for their league form, if Arsenal don't walk away with it, Liverpool should take the trophy home for the first time in the club's history! And on-top of all that, they have first option to buy on-loan French-star Nicolas Anelka at the end of the season, and have one of the Czech Republic's hottest properties just waiting in the reserves!
Who needs Robbie 'God' Fowler!!
But the question that I must ask is 'Is all this hard work down to Houllier???'
As you know, the Frenchman was out of action for quite some time in hospital after being diagnosed as having a heart problem - linked to the stress of football management (possibly). And before all this, and before Phil Thompson took temporary charge of the team affairs, Liverpool looked like a completely different team to the one we are currently witnissing towards this season's closure!
So it seems that Phil Thompson deserves more praise than he is recieveing, after turning Liverpool's dull season into a real challenege for honours! Houllier has had nothing to do with it!
Now i'm not saying that Houllier should be instantly replaced by Thompson or anything, but he does deserve a lot more 'thank you's than what he's seen.
After all, he is the man who has helped a team overcome the likes of top League and European sides like Man United on their own grounds, and in some style too!
And aswell as all those points, he's helped secure the deal for Milan Baros, and also helped 'Whining Anelka' settle down and produce some of the quality that only fans of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have seen!
He's been a revelation this season at Anfield!
So, Houllier's back now, and he has to continue on from where 'Thommo' left off. And a 1-0 home win against Leverkusen last night wasn't a bad way to continue their European push. While the goals against Charlton over the Easter weekend has also added a similar effect, but in the league - putting Liverpool onto of the lot, even if it was only for a day or two!
But there's still quite a long way to go, and it doesn't get any easier from now on! But will Houllier be able to cope, and handle the team in the same positive way as Phil Thompson???
You never know in football. Houllier's return could mean the end of Liverpool's chances of glory this season - even of they did lift 3 last year, it's a hard situation to jump straight back into! He'll still have all those years of experience inside him from the French leagues to the French national side, and hopefully for Liverpool fans he can incorporate that into their tactics. But that could change Thompson's winning ways, leaving Arsenal or United to run away with it all!
The point i'm trying to get at is that Houllier's return could have a bad effect on the end of Liverpool's season. And many Liverpool fans may believe that Thompson should see out the rest of the season in charge, and let Houllier rest some more. After all, the end of a campaign is a more stressfull time than any other, and that could be bad for his heart! Maybe it would be best if he just left things alone.
What do you think???
How do you feel Houllier's return will effect Liverpool's chances of glory this season??
However, one thing I did just want to say was, I think it's an extremely brave decision of Houllier's to return to football. I'm not sure I could have done that had I been in a similar position.
Do you feel that Houllier's return had a positive or negative effect on last night's Liverpool match!?? ;D
Or would you rather have someone bigger with a lot more experience in the hot seat?
I think he may be a good choice, but Liverpool and their fans would surely opt for someone else instead. Their a big name club, with a huge reputation and great history.
Why would they want some 'no-body' in charge!
And you're still confident about Houllier's return for the rest of this season.
Look at the way he handle the team whilst Houllier was out of action - He deserves manager of the year in my opinion!!
Or would he be better off incharge at a new club??
Either way, I have a feeling that you'll be loosing Phil Thompson one day! After a good experience in charge of Liverpool, he may want to go alone elsewhere.
Look carefully and you'll surely notice it!
Should frogs really be managers???
Can Liverpool trust their title and European chances on an amphibian!!?
spooky
Hmmmmmmmm.......I wouldn't be so sure...
Football, it's a funny old game, anything can happen!
