We've read a few topics on these forums about the best bits in gaming. memorable moments like the first time you witnessed mass suicide in lemmings, or getting your first 'tetris'...but what are the NEXT best bits in gaming? Well, with so many great games coming out soon, here are my pics:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Murder on the Dancefloor
I'll kick off with a Sophie Ellis-Bextor related pun, referring to the upcoming option in GTA to enter buildings. One thing I'm particularly looking forward to is literally cutting it up in the disco with some of the new no-bullet weapons like the cadaver. Or katana. Or screwdriver. Actually, I think I'll take my chainsaw to those mindless ravers. Mwahaha.

Red Faction 2 - THAT Matrix Scene
Much was made of the Geo-Mod engine in the original Red Faction. We were promised a wholly interactive environment which, in layman's turns, boils down to allowing us to make holes in the walls just by using a rocket launcher. Nice theory, but mediocre execution, amounting to not a low more than what we've seen before (painfully obvious areas, darker than the rest of the wall, screaming out to be shot at). However, this time it'll be different (so they say, anyway) and thanks to some creative burglary (poetic license, you see) Voilition have made a map that has a lobby full of pillars for you to hide behind and/or shoot at. Here's hoping that there'll be a co-operative mode, allowing two of you to go at it like there's no hidden conspiracy at all, and actually recreate that wonderful action sequence from The Matrix.

Blinx - Play...Stop, Rewind, Play
This looks like the first game to properly integrate 4D. Time is actually important in this one (to hell with you, Majora's Mask!) and when you have enough time crystals, you can rewind during a fight, press play and you can fight alongside your past (or present, depending how you see it) self. It's original, and it'll be ruddy good fun.

XIII - Using a Rocket Launcher
Yes, yes, it's cel-shaded. But it's in a genre as yet untouched by big black outlines and pastel colours. XIII is a first person shooter by numbers (in the colouring book rather than development sense) which sees cheerful looking guards being shot with cheerful looking bullets speeding out of cheerful looking guns. However, the one thing I'm looking forward to is busting out a shoulder-mounted anti-terrorism brigade and pressing fire. Rather than weird looking cartoon fire, however, what I'll see is a puff of smoke and a comic 'BANG!' where the projectile has met flesh. It's the next generation's GoldenEye Sniper Rifle.

TimeSplitters 2 - Disco Inferno
I admit that the 'Disco' of that headline is a bit misleading, but 'Clown and Monkey Inferno' doesn't have quite the same ring to it. The game comes out this Friday (unless you just own a GCN, in which case...HAHA!) and it has two stand out features - funny character models, and great multiplayer modes. One thing that's really caught my eye is the 'Inferno' mode, though. One character is on fire, and he (or she) has to get as many other people on fire as possible. As someone not on fire, it's your responsibility to either kill the flaming fiend, or guide him towards your other enemies. It'll be brilliant...but add the option of being a clown OR a monkey, and you have a whole weekend planned.

Metroid Prime - Rollin'
The third question, after "could you believe it's a woman?" and "how does she see sideways with them bloomin' great shoulder things?" is always "when will there be a next-gen Metroid game?" and of course, just as a token of Nintendo's love for everyone (except Europe, which they hate), the Gamecube is getting Metroid Prime. Although the main game may not impress me (the screen looks to cluttered with helmet reflections, cross-bars, health-hairs and ammo diagrams), I can't wait to roll up into a ball like a hedge-hog and hurtle around an alien space station. It'll be like a shiny metal prelude to the next F-Zero game.

The Sims Online - Chatting in a Coffee Shop
I agree, that doesn't sound too exciting, but it's THE SIMS~! Take days of leaving your virtual family without any shower or toilet and occasional fires and add immersive online options, and you have another best-selling record-breaker. Your Sims will be able to meet other Sims and not just go on a Hot Date with them, but chat to them. It's the Habbo Hotel that isn't rubbish, and The Sims that doesn't get boring after a week!

Tony Hawk's 4 - Freedom
Well, not really, but more freedom than before. Finally, we'll have the chance to truly explore. Areas bigger than Dave Mirra's, tricks cooler than Aggressive Inline's, and objectives that will test every last one of your PS2 boarding abilities. The career mode is totally revamped and with mini-games in every single level (including street luge and tennis using your deck as a racket), there'll be even more diversity in the mad-air-grabbing, tail-sliding insanity.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance - Doing it Properly
None of this Raiden rubbish. We all hate him. Ponce. Blonde hair. Cartwheels. Do we want to snap necks with someone more likely to knit scarves? Being able to play Sons of Liberty the way we should have in the first place - as Snake. All the way through. We'll do it properly, and I bet it'll be ten times more fun.

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness - 128 Bits of Lara
The chance to finally see Ms Croft in all her next-gen glory. The Dreamcast ports were a teaser trailer, but this is the blockbuster main attraction. We'll be staying up all night just watching the pony-tail swing as she runs, bum wiggling as she crawl and...of course, head shaking as we attempt the nude cheat for the 19th time. So what if the gameplay is horrible - it's TOMB RAIDER!

Star Wars: Galaxies - Being Part of the Best Sci-Fi Film EVER
EverQuest was silly. Morrowind is boring. Here is the chance to actually be Random Blorac #11! Pick your race, trade and starting planet and dive in to a Star Wars MMORPG. Just being able to gaze at the stars through the eyes of a wookie monster (and no, not that one!) is enough to get this game in top ten lists.

Halo 2 - Playing Halo 2
Halo 2...well, it'll probably be the best game ever (or at least on the next gen platforms...OK, at least on the XBOX). Next to nothing is known about this, apart from the fact that it's the sequel to Halo. And that's all you need to know. Better graphics, more guns, more vehicles, better maps, and online play. 'Some vague date in 2003' can't come soon enough.

PS2/Gamecube/XBOX - Playing Online
I end with this because it's probably the biggest advance, console-wise, in a decade. Whether it's playing a South Korean at Pro Evolution Soccer, trading NES games with an Egyptian in Animal Crossing, or driving a warthog into a huge cliffs face in the aforementioned Halo 2, many games will shine. I don't know if it will be a great success, or even if it will work at all...even the launch dates of the online services (apart from XBOX Live) are sketchy, if existent. But it's the future of gaming, and it'll hold a shedload of 'best bits'.

Well, there you have it. If you've got your own ideas, additions or comments, feel free to post them here. Thanks for reading.
