I heard about this game ages ago. Then forgot about it. Then remembered it. Then downloaded the demo a couple of days ago. Then forgot about it.

Finally got round to playing it last night, and it's a top game!

The scene:

You work for a company called Uplink, and you are a hacker. To start with you have no experience, little money, and hardly any software/hardware to speak of.

As you do more hacks, you get more money buy better software/hardware etc.

Hacks are things like "Hack into system, and copy certain files for us." Or "Hack into system and give this person a better grade." etc.

The graphics are poor, but then it's in the style of a program GUI, so it fits and works really well. The music is good, and the gameplay is spot on. If you've bought the right software in the game, you can see how close you are to being traced.

Can you finished the download before they get you?

The gameplay is really edge of the seat stuff, and you really get into it.

However, as I've only played the demo, I want to know what the rest of the game is like, does anyone know? Is it worth £20? I know it's not much but I'm really skint at the the moment!

For anyone who hasn't played it, go here:

http://www.introversion.co.uk and download the demo, it's only about 3 meg. And let me know what you think of it.

Cheers.

Do you remember to bounce your signal on that big map? I used to just click the link but you just get traced and termited so I released I had to bounce my signla around the other sites on the map in the top right corner ending up in the destination required. Then I just click connect and I ussually get around 120 seconds of time to do it.

P.s. DOn't use dictionary hacker like EVER! And with your first big cash in get the best tracer and an IP finder thing so you can get more destinations to bounce your signal.

I downloaded demo, but can't get past the first hacking level, as I tried dozens of tools but I get a terminated connection...what tool should I use? The game lacks realism in a way, as who needs to pay "credits" for a game when you can download hacking tools off the net? These people need what us earth beings call a "search engine" :D

Anyway, good game, but someone help me get past hacking that first thingy (from the E-Mail).

Danke in advance.

There's a great sense of urgency to disconnect when the tracer reaches 16 seconds, only you can't as you're still in the middle of deleting a log file...

Then, a few hours later, you're caught.

BEST PC GAME EVER!! It is so challenging with a sense of reality to it. And just so your parents can't say it's not educational it has lots of terms and phrases that you will come to learn. ( I never new what an IP was until I played it heh)

As far as I recall, the game is great until you can hack into a bank. Then you have unlimited funds, and the game lacks challenge.
