We open with Vince McMahon, owner of SmackDown!. He says that Ric Flair erroneously stated that Undertaker could face Triple H at Backlash. Flair must have forgotten that the Board of Directors also gave rights to declaring #1 Contender to whoever won the coin toss. As winner of that coin toss, Vince will decide who faces Triple H, and he will make that announcement later tonight. The pyro explodes, and we are LIVE from the first SmackDown! of the new era. Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to Rochester. We'll see Kurt Angle take on Edge! But first...

"Medal" hits, and Angle comes out. He is officially stating that he is ready, willing, and able to face Triple H at Backlash. Reason One: Angle has beaten Triple H more times than anyone else in the company. Reason Two: He's an Olympic Gold Medalist. Reason Three: He is adored and admired by both children and senior citizens worldwide, especially the sick one. Reason Four... The Y2J Countdown hits 0.00, and out comes the Ayatollah. Jericho gets right in Angle face and calls him a pompous jackass. There is no way in hell that Angle deserves the Title shot. No one deserves it except for Jericho. He was the first Undisputed Champion, and the only rematch he gets is one with Stephanie McMahon, who by the way, was the one that got pinned, not him. And now, not only does he not get a Title Shot, he has to come out in front off all these people who think he is a has-been. He is not a has-been! And tonight, he will be the one to get that shot at Triple H at Backlash, and there's nothing Angle can do about it. Angle doesn't like that. As far as Jericho's quest for a Title Shot goes, it already "has been" completed. Oh, that's hilarious, Jericho says. But if memory serves, the last time the two of them fought, Jericho beat Angle. So who's the has-been now? They could go back and forth all night, but why not get it on tonight, with the winner facing Triple H at Backlash. Angle says he's fine with that. If ya smell.... The Rock comes out on his stage. Finally, The Rock has come back to "Rockchester". Do these two actually think they're the only ones who should get a shot at Triple H? Let The Rock remind them that there's one man who has had more matches with Triple H than the two of them combined. One man who could electrify the crowd like no other. Rock stops himself and thinks. Actually, there is someone else. One day, The Rock will get a shot at the Undisputed Title, and he will whoop a$# like he's never whooped before. But until then, the man who deserves a Title shot maybe a little bit more than The Rock, then we should give it to a legend, to an icon: Hulk Hogan. This is all new, says The Rock. Although this is SmackDown, this is an all new SmackDown! This used to be "The Rock's Show", but now and forever, it will be "The People's Show." And seeing as these two jabronis are sitting on their thumbs in the ring, these people are going to let them know who they want in the Main Event at Backlash. The crowd chants for Hogan. If ya smell what the Rock is cookin! Fade Out.

Billy & Chuck vs. Scotty & Albert (Tag Titles)
-Earlier tonight, Scotty and Albert pump each other up because they've just been named #1 Contenders for the Tag Titles. We come back to the ring, and Scotty and Albert are waiting for their Title Shot. BIlly and Chuck come out, with Rico cheering them on. Scotty and Chuck start off, with Chuck kneeing Scotty into the ropes and clubbing him down. Scotty ducks a clothesline and hits Chuck with a neckbreaker 1-2-shoulder up. Tag to Billy. Armdrag by Scotty, but Chuck clubs him in the back. Clothesline by Billy. Billy and Chuck double stomp on Scotty, and Chuck tags in. Shoulder thrusts by Chuck. Roundhouse punch, but Scotty starts firing back. Scotty floats over Chuck's back and superkicks him. Both men go down. Tag to Albert and Billy. Powerslam to Billy 1-2-Chuck hits Billy with an elbow drop. Albert tosses Chuck out of the ring and splashes Billy in the corner. He tags in Scotty. Rico distracts Albert, allowing Chuck to clothesline him on the outside. Scotty takes Billy down with a DDT, but the ref is watching Albert and Chuck. Rico runs in and nails Scotty with a spinning heel kick. Billy pins 1-2-3! After the match, Albert stares Rico down, but Scotty bulldogs him. He starts to set the Worm, but Albert gives him an ax kick! Splash in the corner! Albert with knees to his partner. He chokes Scotty on the ropes, then clubs him down. Albert picks Scotty up in a choke and gives him the Baldo Bomb.

In the back, Mark Lloyd asks Vince about his decision. After figuring out who Mark Lloyd is, Vince says that he has decided on who the #1 Contender is. This is all about opportunity, and Vince does not succumb to public pressure. He could care less about what the fans want, or what the Rock wants. He wants one young man to fufill his dream. At Backlash, Triple H will take on... Hulk Hogan!

In the back, Jericho runs down Rock and yells at him for suggesting Hogan. Jericho lists all the times he beat Rock, but Rock stops him and asks if he thinks he can beat him tonight. Jericho says he can. Fade Out.

Christian vs. Diamond Dallas Page
Page starts with a roundhouse punch, and then kicks Christian away before clotheslineing him over the top. Christian guillotines DDP and then stomps away. He lays Page on the ropes and knocks him off the apron to the barrier. On the outside, Christian stomps on DDP. Back in the ring, Christian hits Page with a Russian legsweep 1-2-shoulder up. Christian locks in a sleeper. Page lifts his legs, trying to shove Christian away, but Christian holds him there, pinning his shoulders 1-2-reversed 1-2-kickout. Page nails Christian in the gut and looks for a powerbomb. Christian rolls down, but Page ducks a clothesline and hits the powerbomb 1-2-shoulder up. Christian hits DDP with the reverse backbreaker. Page tries for a Diamond Cutter, but Christian holds the ropes. Reverse DDT by Christian 1-2-shoulder up. Christian yells at the ref and starts throwing his world famous temper tantrum. He rakes DDP in the eyes and hits the Unprettier 1-2-3!

In the back, Angle can't figure out what Vince was thinking. Edge comes up and tells Angle to calm down before they're match tonight. They used to be really good friends, and Edge found some pictures of he and Angle. Edge holds the pictures up, with the words "He Sucks" on the back, facing the camera. Angle holds up some more, reading "Yes, I am a Dork." "It's True" and finally "I have no testicles." Edge walks off as Angle looks over the pictures, then sees the backs and runs after Edge. Fade Out.

It's time to play the game! The Undisputed WWF Champion, Triple H, makes his way down the ramp and into the ring. Monday night, Ric Flair made a Championship Match for Backlash: Triple H vs. The Undertaker. Tonight, Vince McMahon claims that he holds the right to make the Championship Match, and chooses Triple H to put the Undisputed Title on the line against Hulk Hogan. Frankly, he could care less either way. But since it looks like it will be Hogan, he knows Undertaker will be p****d. Well let The Game assure him of one thing: the title isn't going anywhere. When Triple H gets done with Hogan, he will be waiting for Taker. Hendrix blares, but out comes Hogan in Red and Yellow! RED AND YELLOW! WHOOOO! Hulkamania is back, brothers! He says that he was just as surprised as everyone else when Vince included The Hulkster in the Backlash match. He thought it couldn't get any bigger than WrestleMania I, then he thought it couldn't get any bigger than WrestleMania III. Then the fans brought Hulkamania back at WrestleMania XVIII. Hulkamania rules again, brother. But it doesn't get any bigger than the Undisputed Title. If these fans believe in him, and believe he deserves a shot, then he's gonna take it. Trips says that it will be an honor to be in the ring with the Immortal Hulk Hogan. But while it's an honor, there's a little part of him that is sad. Sad because he will have to hurt someone he has looked up to his whole life, and he'll have to hurt him badly. He will not hesitate one second in that ring. When Hogan gets in the ring at Backlash and looks in his eyes, Hogan won't be immortal or even an icon; he's just an obstacle for Triple H to run down. That's not a threat, nor a warning. It's a fact. Nothing will come between Triple H and the Undisputed WWF Championship, not even the Immortal Hulk Hogan. Brother, he is The Game and he is that damn good. Hogan says that Hunter may be right. But even when the experts say Hulkamania is dead and gone, it always rises up again. And at Backlash, when Hulkamania rises up, he's got one question: whatcha gonna do, brother, when Hulkamania runs wild on him? With that, Hogan tears his Hulkashirt and flexes right in Triple H's face. Fade Out.

Edge vs. Kurt Angle
-Angle runs down and takes Edge down, stomping away over and over. Spinning heel kick by Edge, but Angle hits him with a German Suplex. Vertical suplex by Angle 1-2-kickout. Angle smashes Edge into the corner and chops away. Edge catches Angle with a big boot, but Angle comes back with an overhead belly-belly. Clothesline by Edge, who ducks a punch and pulls Angle down 1-2-kickout. Edge gets Angle locked in the ropes and Spears the prone gold medalist. Another Spear! He clotheslines Angle over the top. On the outside, Angle gets a chair, but Edge goes out and pulls him in the ring. Angle pokes him in the eye and punches away. Back bodydrop by Edge. Angle grabs the chair as Edge runs for a Spear. Angle puts it in front and Edge rams into the chair. The DQ bell rings and Angle gets the chair again. He pulls it away from the ref, but Edge has recovered and forces Angle from the ring.

In the back, Billy Kidman meets up with his real-life lady Torrie Wilson. He's facing Tajiri for the Light Heavyweight Title tonight, and he knows Torrie will be there. He just wanted to let her know that their WCW past is behind them. They hug, when Tajiri comes up on them. He forces Torrie to kiss him and takes her away. Fade Out.

Tajiri vs. Billy Kidman (Cruiserweight Title)
Kidman wrenches Tajiri's arm, but Tajiri snapmares him and hits a headscissors. Kidman comes back with one of his own, as well as two armdrags. Tajiri catches Kidman with a reverse thrustkic that sends him outside. Tajiri with an asai moonsault onto Kidman. After the match, Torrie looks very upset with herself. Tajiri gets a mic and apparently calls Torrie into the ring. He circles her and says something angrily at her. He screams in short bursts, scaring Torrie. He drops the mic and walks off.

In the back, Vince says that he's fine with Kidman as the Cruiserweight Title. But the one change that gets him is the Hardcore Title. Vince drafted Maven so he could bring the Title to Smackdown. Vince tells Bob "Hardcore" Holly to go teach Maven a lesson. Hardcore leaves, and Stacy Keibler comes in. She knows that Vince has a lot on his plate, but she wants to offer him her services as an "executive assistant." She loved Vince's "intellectual sperm" speech on Raw. She loves the wa Vince talks, and he loves the way she walks.

In the back, Godfather, Funaki, Chavo Guerrero, Hurricane, Hugh Morrus, and Rikishi are placing bets on something that has to do with Mark Henry. Fade Out.

In the back, D-Von bursts into Vince's office, asking who the hell he thinks he is to split him from his brother, all because Vince and Flair can't see eye to eye? Vince needs to testify. Vince says that he wanted the Dudley Boys on SmackDown. Flair knew that and split them up, so Vince took the better Dudley Boy. He thought D-Von was ready to step up, to climb the ladder of success. But now, he can get the hell out of Vince's office until he figures out who the hell D-Von really is. Don't come back until he's ready to be a WWF Superstar.

In the back, Al Snow and Maven are talking about him being a three-time Hardcore Champion. A year ago, he would have had to pay some crazy on the streets to get the kind of beating Hardcore Holly is going to give him tonight. Fade Out.

Maven ducks a clothesline and hits Hardcore with a spinning heel kick and gets an early two count. Hardcore beats on Maven in the corner and chops away. Maven goes up top and hits a missile dropkick 1-2-kickout. Hardcore picks up Maven and gives him the Alabama Slam 1-2-3!

I don't think smackdown spoilers are a good idea because they ruin the fun out of watching it themselves. But, it is also good because if someone couldn't watch it, they could go on the internet.
