This discussion is looking at one of the most important parts of a game. The sound. How much influence do you think that the music and sound effects have on the overall game? I think that sound is very important when you consider how much EA paid for Robbie Williams on the FIFA soundtrack, also how people reacted when Gran Turismo came out they were raving about how cool it was to have a radio where you could listen to the Rock tunes while you were driving. I think that it adds to the game, because Rock tunes can help you become a bit in tune with driving a car aggressively. But what about Final Fantasy 7 when Aeris died the music depicted what everyone was feeling at the time it was so moving, it was lovely. The music of a game can set the atmosphere, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis and Silent Hill really was masterful music as it had you expecting to jumped on and tense at the edge of your seat. I think within games music has come on leaps and bounds the sound effects in Perfect Dark are stunning with voiceovers making you feel more in tune with character, and the fact that Square releases the soundtracks to many games show just how engrossing the music is and how important developers view it.

This discussion is an appreciation piece to some of the great pieces of music that have been found within games, they have added to the overall enjoyment to our games, anyone who has a favourite piece of game music let us know, and what you think will happen in the future. Perhaps a game with sounds all the way through of people chatting away. Or more and more games buying the rights to songs - like EA with Robbie. What do you think?
