I have a question I am sure someone out there can answer me, did Nintendo think of the name "Gamecube" and create the console to be cube-shaped, or did they create the prototype and notice it was cube-shaped and called it the cube? I think the second is more likely because it was originally going to be called the "Dolphin" wasnt it, but if anyone out there knows then let me know please!

im pretty sure they changed the name to Starcube because the Dolphin was just a codename and the design ended up looking like a cube, but less than a week later they noticed that the name Starcube sucks so they called it Gamecube

Or perhaps, they saw the design of the XBOX, and decided they had to be radically different (ie smaller) and chose the most space efficient object to suit a minimalistic console?

Does anyone else think the cube is quite minimalistic? I quite like the idea!
