Then I started to wonder at what age do you start a bed time and how do you gradually increase it. Also if a a child is to go to bed at 7:30pm does that mean he/she has to sleep for 12 hours until they can get up? Is that healthy for a child to sleep 1/2 the day?
I think one of the reasons why chinese people might be less strict with bed times is because the chinese are night people. You go to Hong Kong and all the shops are still open. People work all day so they want to do everything else at night. It's not uncommon to have dinner at 9pm.
Youngest 15 months, has naps during the day and then will go to bed when i do which is anywhere from 10am. Will sleep till about 7am-9am sometimes will wake in the night. Not all the time though.
Normally, bedtimes for small children and even some kids up to 6 or 7 start at 7pm or around that time. However, our 2 year old (well, 2 in about 3 weeks time) doesn´t want to know about going to bed until about 9pm. We´re not too strict on it as long as she´s healthy and getting enough sleep. She still has 1 hour in the middle of the day after lunch as well.
