I was also wondering this the other day, as I got the game a month or two ago. I've found it easy, but haven't taken the short time to complete it yet.
I asked someone in the WLT, and they said that you DO have to play it through once, and you cannot save your progress.
I also cannot wait for Dinosaur Planet!!!

I havn't got one on mine so i'm guessing there isn't one.
It is slightly annoying but then it takes less than an hour to complete it, i'm still trying to get the last 2 medals though (sun planet and easy Venom) quite annoying, but the rewards worth it :)
