Reader Craig Wallace ordered a Pioneer DVD-RW AO3 from Special Reserve, which he selected from their July/August club magazine. After spending £400, it promptly turned up: "The only problem was they had sent a Pioneer Ao4 instead of the advertised Pioneer AO3," says Craig. "But having spoken to Pioneer prior to my order, they had said the AO3 had been discounted. So my first impressions were that Special Reserve had sent me an upgraded model."
Then, he received the new club magazine only to find his drive advertised for £279.99, much less then he had been charged. He phoned Special Reserve and was told there shouldn’t be a problem with a refund of the difference but this would need to be verified with a director first.
Craig heard nothing for three days until a letter arrived saying he had bought the drive five weeks previously, the prices on both units had dropped. “It stated that due to the length of time that I’d had the product, and due to the fact that they were not notified of the despatch error at the time, they were unable to offer any refund,” explains a very unhappy Craig.
HERE’S THE REPLY!
Over to Special Reserve:
“Unfortunatly it would appear that Mr Wallace received the AO4 as a result of a despatch error, as the Pioneer DRVA03 was in stock at the time,” says a spokesperson for the company. “Despatch errors do occur and had he notified us on receipt, or within a reasonable period of time, we would have collected the incorrect item and replaced it.” They say that because you did not contact them until seven weeks after receipt, “we could not take any action at such a late stage.” However the good news is that the bods at Special Reserve are going to offer a refund of the price difference as a gesture of goodwill because you are a long-standing member.
So…what are your thoughts? Is Craig Wallace a UKChat member? Ummm, naughty SR! Naughty. But good of you to give a refund after all!

Fair enough. Same price at SR, right? I got mine for £25 as I had a voucher too :c)

Urgh
Although I can't honestly see what's wrong with a higher spec version - prices do drop, and he'd have probably complained if the other version he'd ordered had gone down in price.
Oh well
Funny story - Today, I was in town with a few mates. On of them wanted Timesplitters 2 and Hitman 2 for the Xbox. We went to e-play, but there was a sign saying 'back in 5 minutes'. So, we went to game, where he bought them both for £45 each. Then we went to e-play where they were only £40 each. And the pillock didn't want to go back to GAME to get a refund/price reduction! How I laughed :).
