Games are like movies, well in a way they are. Not the final product but the way they are developed and produced is similar. Five to ten years ago games were put together by a few programmers and these days with the industry so big games require programmers, artists, musicians, directors, actors for voices, hundreds of people working together to produce a game.
Instead of being a basic game they are worked on for months to try and make them as best as they can, well the good developers do anyway.

But while I was watching Scream I came across the thought of what are the potential for these similarities. What benefits could the movie industry have for the games industry?
I know that for some movies the scenes are re-shot and the actors wear sensors (like the ones EA use for the FIFA games) so that for the games the scenes can be re-created and be as close to the original movie scenes as possible.

I see this as a good idea as it makes the games based on films as realistic as they can be, but other than this what else could we see?
Well while watching scream, which is a trilogy as you will know I came across the thought of game trilogys, is such a thing possible? Three games all linked in a way and based on the basic trilogy rules for any movie, not a series of games based on movies that are part of a trilogy though as I'm not sure how well they would work. What I mean is for a new idea to be thought on but for the developer to also work out the stroy for the two sequel game making them offer a new experience with a trilogy of a game. Developers would not only be taking a risk in trying to get the game to be a sucess but they would also have to work out the entire story for all three games and make sure it is a story that works well.

I think an idea like this could work, in a way it is a unique idea, the developer could release a game every 6 months (maybe a little longer between titles) until the series has all been released and with clever marketing could make it sell even more. Although the quality of the games is the main thing.
Maybe you don't understand it, maybe I haven't explained it as well as it should be but If you don't understand what I mean then just ask and I will try to explain it better.

So what else? What about famous movie directors working along side developers. Well as far as I know this has been done a little. Speilberg helped EA with the Medal of Honour games and I think Lucas helped a lot with a lot of the star wars games. Maybe and in a way hopefully we will see more of this so that we can get the best at what they do helping to make some exciting and great storylines to go with games.

Well I'll cut it short here, if any of you have any more ideas or want to comment on these ideas then please post them.

For me, the only game to get the balance just right was Conkers Bad fur day on the N64. Its just 100% fun and enjoyable to play. Amazing how they managed to sqeeze it all onto one cart. And the cut-scenes also enabled you to become much more attached to Conker himself without it getting boring at any point. Looked forward to every cut-scene. Hopefully with the sequel (If RARE do make one..please god please?! :)) Rare wont go OTT with cut-scenes with all this extra space available on Discs...

In a way you are very right, MGS2 is the latest and best example of games taking the step to being more movie like, well a certain genre and variety of games are anyway. MGS2 didn't get teh balance right between playing and watching which spolied it a bit but once the right balance is achieved then we could see some very fine games.

I guess there is also the old games based on movies which I don't really like as the developers are tied to a story line and sometimes they just can't get the code to implement exactly what they want to do. Usually these games are a let down, never live up to the film they are based on because most films that get games based on them are huge box office hits.

Its probably gonna happen you know. It nearly happened on the Gameboy Color. The Zelda Games that came out not so long ago were originally ment to come out as a trilogy (triforce thing i suppose). They were gonna be some cool things that you have to do in the 3 seperate games to do stuff in the other game. I really dont know what happened but in the end I think they just coudnt get it to work and ended up just releasing the two.

It shows that they are thinking along those lines though...

Games like Movies? Only have to look as far as MGS2 for this. BY god...this "game" is actually just a interactive movie. Anyone counted how many hours of actual gameplay there is when compared against the cut-scenes?
