One of the most important announcements that Nintendo made about Gamecube at this year's ECTS was the confirmation that it's latest console wouldn't use cartridges. Instead, it has opted for DVD, although, not a 'traditional' DVD, a proprietary Nintendo Gamecube disc that measures 8cm in diameter.

Yeah it's awesome that they are using the smaller cds. They hold twice as much as playstation (1.5GB)---at least that is what i have heard. Gamecube is going to kill every other system out there! (One bad thing is that i have heard that sony is going to start making ps3)

Nintendo's new machine is ment to actually run all it's power at once unlike the N64 which didn't ever run 64-bit at any one time! This is because all the power is put into the games!

However Matsushita have announced that they are going to bring out a gamecube system that CAN run DVD movies and not affect the Gamecubes playing abilities! It is also rumoured to be £50 cheaper than the PS2!

This means it's more powerful, DVD compatable and cheaper than the PS2!

This also means you can't copy these games so Nintendo don't lose money. With the Dreamcast and the Playstation 2 you can copy the games meaning they lose money. It's a bit thick really isnt it. Basicly the creators of these consoles tell us not to copy games but all nintendo games are either cartridge or disk meaning they don't lose money. Clever isnt it!

Thats true and the game will only have 1.5gb of space. This probably means that Ps2 fans will start bragging in their Byast ways. However i think it's good not being able to play dvd films because it dosen't waste the little space in the console.

Yes, this is actually a good way for Nintendo to start. Sega did it also with their 1gb "Sega Cd-Roms". It basically tharts of the pirate community for a little longer than that of a console using standard DVD-Roms or standard CD-Roms. The purates will get there in the end, but it will take them longer.

Its quite bad for third party publishers and developers though. Because Nintendo uses the proprietary Nintendo Gamecube disc, which was designed by them, nintendo can legally get away with charging third party publishers and developers higher licensing costs which migt in turn drive them away if Nintendo decide to be too greedy.
