Martial Conquest is a computer game designed by me Cubist about a young martial artist named Rico on his journey to regain what he has lost in his life. It is an exciting RPG styled action/adventure game including Rico and his two friends as you battle against a variety of foes. Rico comes from a reasonably wealthy family but no matter what his parents can give him there is something he gets from fighting that he can’t get from anything else. He trains at his private karate club’s dojo but when his parent’s die in a car crash although he is left with enough money to live on for a considerable time he has a need to replace the loss of the only family he had left. The only place this can be achieved however is on the far away island of Okinawa off the coast of Japan, the birthplace of Karate. Here he decides to give up all the luxuries of modern life to train in a Shoalin temple. Here his mentors and fellow students (two of which speak English) become the only family he has. This is when the story really kicks into action. One night as Rico was walking through the fighting arena passed the dorm to the showers he sees through the darkness a lone student rolling in pain but not making a sound as a shadowed figure leans over him drawing something out of him. All Rico sees is a green stream of light coming from his fellow pupil to the dark man above. Rico runs to try and save him but just as he gets there the man disappears into the darkness leaving the body on the bed. The mentors come running into the room assuming the obvious that he has killed an innocent man. The only ones to stick with Rico are his two friends as they start their quest around the island to use their techniques against foes to get to the bottom of the trouble.
LEVEL 1: - Training Grounds
In this level the three friends run around the training grounds acquiring weapons and life points before they go out of the temple into the big wide world.
Life points are gained from obtaining: -
1 – A glowing green leaf (250 points)
2 – A glowing bottle (500 points)
Or
3 – Payment of 30 § to an herbal medicine doctor to heal the whole group (§ = £ or $ or etc)
In total you can have 1500 life points at any one time.
Enemies come in all shapes and sizes and each have different abilities. Basic enemies such as the temple students that you will encounter in this level do 20-30 damage each hit but they only ever fight in groups of one, two or three having around 40-50 life points between each one. Once you feel you are ready to embark on the second level you must go to the giant wooden gates that you first came in through. This would be easy if you did not have to fight the three teachers of the school to leave the temple each with 1000 life points each! But don’t get to afraid because through determination and mastery of the moves you will win each match with ease. In the game every boss except the last boss (who has overall 4000 Life points!) has 1000 life points each.
A battle is played like a three way tag team match. If you are facing a single enemy then you choose one of your team to fight them swapping your man with other teammates if the active fighter gets low on life. However if there are two or more enemies then the enemy you face is chosen randomly but unless they are bosses the enemies cannot change no matter how much life they have. Each battle is fought in a true beat-em-up style like the traditional Tekken games with a few added extras your sure to enjoy as you progress through the game. Your characters gain new weaponry and armour lowering the amount of damage received and increasing the amount of damage given but unless you manage to find the accessories you may have to pay a lot of money to get them.
As usual like most beat-em-up games each member of the group has their own special attack list and if you want to practice some moves for the fights instead of pausing the match to search the move list. You can train on punch bags at the Shoalin temple or at any gym on the island to perfect your skills. This is also not cheap unless you’re at the Shoalin temple, which is impossible to get into unless you’re on the first or last level.
This game however also has more subtle enemies so don’t get cocky because as much as walking through the wrong shrub, drinking the wrong water or eating the wrong food can poison the entire team! Making you take another visit to the doctor to be cured. If however you decide not to be cured until you can afford it (50 § for the whole team) then while in battles your defence goes down by 30%.
Money as you have read is a considerable factor in this game however it is not too hard to get some. Money can be gained through fighting battles: -
Enemy/Enemies - Depending on the enemy you fight decides the cost and depending on how many of each enemy you fight per battle is how much the total money gets doubled over.
And through achieving tasks: -
Tasks/Requests – If a local towns person needs a chore to be done and you’re in the area then that person may come up to you and ask for your help. No matter what the task you can accept or not but depending on how hard the task is (time limits etc) you can get paid up to 500 § now that is easy money.
In conclusion the game “Martial Conquest” Is an RPG with many possibilities to lengthen the game/ shorten the game, it has many traditional enemies and many new ones, Inventive characters for you to battle with and a gripping storyline. All these ingredients are the perfect mix in my eyes to make the perfect PC game. I hope this has been an interesting read and that you enjoyed my work.

I plan to enter this along with drawings of the characters and a story board to a competition but I am really hoping some of you here can give me some pointers. The competition is for 12-16 year olds and I'm only 14 :S The bigger boys will win :'(
