With 2 hours solid religious education revision under my belt I decided to venture deep into the dark corner of my room to find something entertaining to past the time. I pushed the empty chocolate rappers and adult magazines to the side and reached for a small rectangular black machine covered in dust and little colored buttons hidden under a copy of ‘PCs for dummies’. Apon revealing the mechanical item I launched myself back onto my bed and pushed the biggest and most reddest button on it I could find.
Suddenly I was bombarded with flashes, bright colors and swirling images; dead people were reborn trying to sell me oven bake chips, vacuum cleaners and dunkable bread sticks. Children began presenting me programs for the intellectually challenged inhabitants in my community and I was drawn in… and there I sat engulfed in its warm glow, content with its mind numbing programs and its low frequency hum that strangely could be heard even when the volume was turned up too double figures.

Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours, hours turned to even more hours. In total I spent 9 hours infront of that alumnus screen. 9 hours of my life gone down the drain, disappeared, no more, departed, it has gone down the curtain to join the quire invisible.
And for what? What good has it done me? I now know that tesco have life insurance and there’s a two for one offer down at asda, but so what?! Being 15 I’m not likely to take advantage over these great deals so why bother?

Why bother? I though this over and over in my small perverted mind. There are no attractions to becoming a mindless zombie (apart from the excepted cannibalism) or being tricked into buying things you don’t want let alone need.
Yet there must be some reason why 10s of millions of people each day sit and stare a collection of light bulbs set in a black case made from a flammable think black liquid.
So using my investigative skills, a TV guide and a 6 pack of Carling I set out to find the answers to my questions.

Positive sides to TV: news updates, soaps, dark angle, being able to play computer games at home, regular soft porn, a surface to put unwanted photos of family

Minus sides: wastes energy, soaps, reality tv shows, pointless adverts involving cheese dip, nation wide cramps and sore bottoms, cartoons that have been made with the similar budget of what the average paperboy gets per week, Carol Smiley

Therefore: positive sides – minus sides = waste of bloody time

Conclusion: TV is not a necessity. It consumes our energy and time, its kills brain sells and makes us a nation of overweight slobs (I might as well go drink paint thinner). But then there’s something that just doesn’t seem right and makes us need it. We need TV to play games on, to watch that goal against arsenal over and over; and basically just have something to do. If it wasn’t there sitting in the corner on standby waiting for you to come home after a hard days work we would have to resort to things like monopoly or conversation *shudders*.

I could spend all day contemplating this but really I can’t be bothered, what I’m trying to say is, we can’t live with it but we can’t live without it.
Anyway make up your own mind, got to go now Trisha’s about to start.

We talked to each other, engaged as a family unit, played with toys and created universes.
We took an interest in our lives and enjoyed participating in life.

Now it's slumped in front of the tv like a narcaleptic raggy-doll.

i realise i spend a lot of time watching the box. I am particularly annoyed that even though I have around 1000 channels, there is never anything on, or it is all repeats.

i don't watch soaps, I really consider them to be a waste of my time. I try to watch as many documentaries as I can (providing its interesting), as watching these sort of things is never a waste of time, you are constantly learning something new. Aside from that I only really watch comedy and films, and the religion that is the simpsons.

i cannot understand people who organise their lives around tv programmes. If something particularly interesting is on, I'll make sure I watch it regularly, but I cannot see the enjoyment of spending your whole life sat in front of a screen. Its just chewing gum for the eyes.

My PC is bad enough for that, seeing as I spend most of my time at uni on one, then come home to spend further time on my own.

you have to wonder what things were like before the tv and radio. what the hell did we do to unwind?

TV is bad?

if you look at it like that, then i guess it is true it is more evil than, anything.

but dont forget about the hours of fun it brings, funny humor, movies, cartoons to shut the kids up with.

you could say that it takes away endless hours of the day, or even yares of your life.

but i can say that this is a world were TVs are sold every second of the day, and by god i will not be left out of this heroic act of Patriotism.

*music plays as he gives his speech*

and of course this is another world class reply from the book of morbo.

i thank you for attension and i will bit adue
