The Lo Down. Well, First Person Shooters are games, that strangely enough, are you looking into the TV screen and seeing out of a characters' eyes and seeing yourself holding a gun. That gun is used for killing enemies, which FPSs are loaded with, on various large stages in various locations. There are sometimes vehicels to travel in too, running over loads of guards, in such things as tanks and jeeps, with the odd boat or helicopter. So, you're starting to see why we all like FPSs so much, aren't you?
What makes First Person Shooters so fun? Well, FPSs have guns, levels, bad dudes, and usually great vehicles to travel about in. And we all (for some reason) enjoy blowing up bad guys, and tanking around huge levels in trucks thinking we are really inside the TV screen and we are really that guy amd we're really going around shooting guards in Russian bases, or really setting mines off on Germans on vast beaches. This could be called sad by some, but it could be called enjoyable by others. I'd go with the latter there.
Why do First Person Shooters always top the gaming charts of the console they are on? Well, there are 2 real answers to that. One more realistic than the other. The first one could be, that this particular type of game could be rare to find, and they buy them simply because they are a type of game that you can only buy about once a year, unlike, say, racing games, which are very common in the gaming market.
The other reason, and the more realistic one would be that FPSs are so enjoyable. Take Goldeneye for example. It was a game that looked good (for N64 standards at the time anyway), played good when you first got it, and it also lasted for some time too. It also had that multiplayer option, which is a key part of making a good shooter game. Medal of Honour : Allied Assualt also had all of those features of Goldeneye, except the graphics were slightly better, the levels slightly larger and with more detail, and the multiplayer is actually an online version of multiplayer, which is great, as it means you can play with LOADS of people at once. Great stuff!
So, really, First Person Shooters are the kind of game that kick some behind, and are the kind of game that are great, at all times, and in all places, and with as many people that you can play them with. FPSs rule!
Hope I've made a point.

Just like a Zelda game without Link wouldn't be a Zelda game, no matter how good it is...
It may be good as a FPS, but it may not.
We don't know for sure yet.
