"Newsflash jesus has died"

A significantly more important death happened 2000 years ago and this post is about as quick on the uptake as about half of the queen mother threads.

I'm not a strong christian but jesus has made an impact on everyone's lives wheter christian or not due to the actions of his followers. Although not breaking news it is probably more relevant to talk about this than create 9999999999999 queen mother has died threads.

The commercialisation of christmas does not annoy me as much as the commercialisation of easter. At least with christmas the anglo saxon pagan holiday was blended with christmas leading to a festival were pagan present giving was maintain and coincides with the gifts of the wise men.. at least this has valid roots. and is on a less significant date. Easter alos was linked witha pagan holiday which is where the giving of sweets came from but companies have totally over developed this and have ruined the most important date in the christian calendar

I see what you're getting at and I don't really know why. It's just a habit, really and hard to change an entire group of people's minds. I also tend to have more money around that time, because no one's birthdays are near it :) 26th of June would just require me to buy loads of birthday presents too :)


I respect your views Ant, I respect you for believing in your religion so much. Alot of people hide it, because they're afraid of what other people may say. I'm not altogether pleased about how over-commercialised Christmas is, even though I'm not Christian. I think part of the reason I buy presents during that time, is because the rest of my friends do and although they would respect my feelings if I didn't buy them at that time, I'd feel guilty about that. If you see what I mean anyway.

Yep, well that's the attitude most people take these days.

Why not just do that on another day?? If it's got nothing to do with the birth of Jesus, why not go buy presents for the...26th June??

Well, actually, they've found lots of proof that he does. Such as the tomb he was buried in.

Anyway, it's the same with Christmas. Most people use it as an excuse just to buy and get presents, and eat loads.

I agree with Tom, if you're not a Christian why do you celebrate it?? We don't go around celebraing Jewish, or Muslim festivals.

Not being a Christian or very religious I am infact disgusted in the way Easter has been manipulised by Capitalists, and children have grown up thinking Easter is about chocolate. And it is now necessary to go and buy over-priced novelty chocolate.

Maybe because both Easter and Christmas aren't really associated with Jesus anymore. What I mean is, they've become commercialised.

To tell the truth, the only way I celebrate Christmas now is just buying presents for my friends and family, mainly because I want to. We didn't put up a tree, we didn't pull crackers, we didn't play christmas carols at full blast.

And you know what? I'm fine about that.

thats ok i don't like the commercialisation of easter as it clearly has significance although like everyone else i get caught up in the christmas hype which in reality is a less important christian date but is celebrated more.

Yup, thanks Ashley. Jesus has made an impact on just about everyones life, for basically the same reasons as what Ant said.

I don't understand how people who *don't* believe in Jesus can celebrate Easter and Christmas...

I just can't be bothered with Easter in general.. Be it in the christian or chocolate sense..
