Do you feel safe knowing that information supplied to online organisations through the use forms etc, can be sold to agencies for the purposes of sending junk or spam mail? This doesn't only apply to the Internet, obviously, it can happen anywhere. When you sign up for a Tescos club card, you are submitting your details to another body. On-line, however, is not as safe as people wish it could be. Credit Card fraud is easy and all that stands between you and your mail is a password. On-line gaming will be a major moneymaker for Internet Service Providers and I'm sure that somehow someone will find a way to use someone elses profiles etc.

and anyway, if it wasn't for crime... where would we get inspiration for games like thief? (Damn that game for it's lack of thievery!)

Sometimes I send asassination plans to my friend over e-mail, just to see what happens.
Theft has been around as long as money has though, theft has evolved as much as paying for things as, so we are as safe as we ever will be.

It's not all that bad Mr Sven, credit card fraud has been around a long time, when you use your credit card in a shop the card no. is printed out on a receipt, which anyone in that shop can see and use fraudulently, on the web it takes a hi-tech piece of equipment to do this. As for details been sold to marketing agencies for mail shots, this type of activity is frowned upon by all web site operations. As well as being illegal, (see Privacy Statements) in Washington DC you can sue for up to $10,000 is you receive spam mail. It won't be long before European rulings allow us to have the same level of privacy in the future. As for your email being secure, it is more secure than snail mail, as anyone in the postal service can open your letters. The fact that MI6 will shortly be able to read your mail too, (if they are not already) does not concern me. Any terroist who is stupid enough to send words through their email like "atomic", "nuclear", "assassination" etc. deserves everything they get. National Security is "A Good Thing".
