To many people, the Royal Family seem to be a group of people who have done nothing to serve this country and the current generation of Royals are to some a 'waste of space'.
The Queen Mother was different, she came from an era when the royals worked hard and earned their respect. Become queen was a surprise to her, as her Husband's brother had been first in line to be king, but abdicated after falling in love with a woman he would not have been able to marry as king. She took to the role well, more than supporting her husband and taking an active part in both world wars.
She refused to move to refuge or send her daughters away during the Second World War and stayed, strong as ever, with the rest of England, encouraging those who were left behind to not give up hope and even going to those dangerous areas that had been bombed or were a high risk at the time, just to build up morale and help those in need.
She has always worked tirelessly for charity, one of the few Royals to provide much needed money and hands-on support for many people in the United Kingdom and abroad, all the time being the strong and moral figure she had been during her husband's reign.
Many here now regard her as just an old lady with a love of horse racing and gin, but she was the last of the great Royals, someone whose kindness and, for a member of the Royal Family, humanity was an example to all. She was never pretentious and all those who knew her, knew why she was dearly loved by so many. In a day and age where pretentious pop stars and actors are mourned, we should not mock the passing of this great lady.
Though many have strong feelings about the Royals, the Queen Mother was the last of the great ruling monarchs, more human that any since, and should be remembered fondly.
I mean, Yes I respect the things you said she did, and helping the people, and I do think she did more than the Royals now have done, but I still fail to see how she can relate to the people of the country when every time she had the slightest thing wrong with her, she got the first class treatment. Yes, I respect that despite frailties she was determined not to let her public down as it were, but had she not been first in line for operations, treatment, etc. would she have had that determination?
I'm beginning to wonder if I should even carry on this post, I'm sure some people are going to have a huge go at me for posting this, but it is how I am feeling.
And this may sound sick now, but not that long ago I felt sickened that whenever the Queen mother had the slightest problem it was deemed news worthy. And when I was hearing about how the Queen mother was determined to make the latest appearance despite an illness or frailty, I couldn't help but think whether these news readers actually remembered that there were wars going on, earthquakes, bombings, etc. and was this really the most newsworthy thing they could come up with?
I don't by any means think it is a good thing she is dead, but again, I just don't really feel... anything about the news. At the end of the day, all the royals are still people.
> It's sad isn't it. Even as a young boy i know how the royal family feels.
Thats extremely arrogent of you.
