The Greatest Machine of all Time for me has to be The Commodore Amiga, I own a A500plus and a A1200. These machines are both marvels of their times. Both machines have been graced with superbly playable games, such as: Stunt Car Racer, Jimmy Whites Whirlwind Snooker, Monkey Island 2, Cannon Fodder, Sensible Soccer, Robocod, PGA tour golf, Dynablaster, Micromachines, Pinball Fantasies, Turrican, Lemmings, SimCity, Shadow of the Beast, Worms, Settlers, the list goes on… all classic games, that are still playable today.
The Machines were superb with the A1200 multitasking with under 2MB of memory, Bill Gates once said he thought a PC could multitask with 2MB of memory… but of course as things turned out Windows 95 could never run on that. With a superb, fast operating system these machines booted up in seconds (faster than most modern machines). The Software was great too, the Deluxe Paint series from electronic arts were incredibly powerful, yet simple to use. A friend of mine still uses his to make music using Octamed, he has about 6 midi devices hooked up simultaneously and the sounds are incredible. The machines rarely crashed, and are extremely efficient. The machines are both truly marvels of their eras.
Ultimately the machines died due to the mismanagement of Commodore U.S., who concentrated their effort on IBM PC clones and went Bust!
The Amiga has truly made its mark on our time, with companies such as Psygnosis who were responsible for so many great Amiga games (e.g. Lemmings, Agony etc..) having moved on to make classics such as the Wipeout series for the playstation.
So what's your opinion? Do you think the Gameboy is the greatest machine of all time, it has classics such as Tetris and still has a strong following today. Or do you think that the N64 is the peak of excellence, perhaps you think the best is yet to come with the new next generation systems?

NES was better than Master System
Game Gear was better than Gameboy
SNES was better than the Megadrive
PSX was better than the 3Dx and the Saturn
Dreamcast are better than N64
But PSX2 will be better than the X-Box and Game Cube.
Alot of people will disagree with me on these but everyone has there different view on the matter.
But in my view every system had there good points and bad points but for classic games the SNES has to be the best. But for gaming, apart from the PC which is best for game graphics [if you have a good graphics card] i think the PSX is the best because of the amount of games that have been released for the console. But i cant wait to get hold of the PSX2, that will be truly great.
The ones that stand out, as far as games go, are:
The SNES - it had some addictive games like Mario Kart, Street Fighter II and Unirally and the graphics and sound at the time were truly amazing.
Megadrive - Simply for Sonic, that tearaway hedgehog of fun. Also Micro Machines and other games were always fun.
Amiga - Walker, Cannon Fodder (with all the music!) and Settlers were three of my favorite games of all time.
Dreamcast - It's my current favorite and has some stunning games like Soul Caliber. Looks like there are plenty more to come as well!
PS2/Gamecube - we will see!
