What do you think was the Greatest Video Games System/ Home Computer of all time, and Why? Is the Playstation the greatest system ever created; or do you think the SNES delivered the goods due to its fast array of easy to pick up, playable and addictive videogames?

The Greatest Machine of all Time for me has to be The Commodore Amiga, I own a A500plus and a A1200. These machines are both marvels of their times. Both machines have been graced with superbly playable games, such as: Stunt Car Racer, Jimmy Whites Whirlwind Snooker, Monkey Island 2, Cannon Fodder, Sensible Soccer, Robocod, PGA tour golf, Dynablaster, Micromachines, Pinball Fantasies, Turrican, Lemmings, SimCity, Shadow of the Beast, Worms, Settlers, the list goes on… all classic games, that are still playable today.
The Machines were superb with the A1200 multitasking with under 2MB of memory, Bill Gates once said he thought a PC could multitask with 2MB of memory… but of course as things turned out Windows 95 could never run on that. With a superb, fast operating system these machines booted up in seconds (faster than most modern machines). The Software was great too, the Deluxe Paint series from electronic arts were incredibly powerful, yet simple to use. A friend of mine still uses his to make music using Octamed, he has about 6 midi devices hooked up simultaneously and the sounds are incredible. The machines rarely crashed, and are extremely efficient. The machines are both truly marvels of their eras.
Ultimately the machines died due to the mismanagement of Commodore U.S., who concentrated their effort on IBM PC clones and went Bust!
The Amiga has truly made its mark on our time, with companies such as Psygnosis who were responsible for so many great Amiga games (e.g. Lemmings, Agony etc..) having moved on to make classics such as the Wipeout series for the playstation.

So what's your opinion? Do you think the Gameboy is the greatest machine of all time, it has classics such as Tetris and still has a strong following today. Or do you think that the N64 is the peak of excellence, perhaps you think the best is yet to come with the new next generation systems?

The Greatest system of all has to be the playstation because it has been a huge success in all over the world and it amazing graphics that are capable of producing. it has had the widest selection of games but say if nintendo let sony do pokemon the would be no competition at all but even though some people think digimon is a load of rubbish i think it is more better than pokemon on tele well get there even though i have seen more pokemon on tele digimon has a kind of a better story line since i have not got sky i can only watch it once a week but can watch pokemon on 2 or 3 times a week, the 2nd best system has to be the mega drive because of its good graphics capable of in its time, the most surviving series is sonic but with sega they have one but playstation don't really have one (well people say it is lara croft!) and nintendo has mario but still my 'Greates System of all time is still: Playstation

I don't know what my favourite system of all time was (but the game boy is high on my list just for tennis and tetris) but my favourite game of all time just has to be the faboulous mario kart for the snes. no before it or after it has made me get such sore thumbs. pushing koopa and toad round the sharp bends, trying to keep bowser or kong on the road. the game was pure magic. everything about it was right, the tracks were superb and meant that the learning curve was pitched just right. the handling of the cars brought delight to anyone fortunate enough to call themselves a mario kart master. hold down r1 and slide right the way round a corner bringing a huge grin to your face through sheer satisfaction. ghost valley, rainbow road and bowser's castle were my favourtite's and i strived to get the best time possible and completely hammer my mates. ooooo, the battle mode, the jewel in the crown of this game. i know that everybody has been on the edge of their seats as a red shell is pursuing them. the panic and the rush of adrenalin. if you could get round a sharp corner, the shell would be thwarted, prompltly followed by you shaking your hand (in the usual w****r gesture to your opponent. if you got hit, you had to go for revenge. never has a game had me hooked for all week. never has a game meant that i have skived off school just to play it and never has a game been so brilliant, that i call it the 'greatest game ever'. you can probably tell that i am wetting my pants at the prospect of 4 player on the game boy advance

I think the SNES was the best console ever. I think this because thay had the most enjoyable games. They had all the Mario games on one cartridge and this was the best games ever. However i did like the sytle of the games for the megadrive. I have to say i found games like ECHO The Dolphin and Sonic and Knuckels great to play on. Howvwwr the PSX has been the most popular console ever. It has sold the most games so somepeople say that this is the best console. Everyone will have a different view on what the best console is and i bet you they say it is the ones they have got at the moment. I have owned evey major console apart from the Sega Saturn and i thnik the following of the consoles.
NES was better than Master System
Game Gear was better than Gameboy
SNES was better than the Megadrive
PSX was better than the 3Dx and the Saturn
Dreamcast are better than N64
But PSX2 will be better than the X-Box and Game Cube.
Alot of people will disagree with me on these but everyone has there different view on the matter.
But in my view every system had there good points and bad points but for classic games the SNES has to be the best. But for gaming, apart from the PC which is best for game graphics [if you have a good graphics card] i think the PSX is the best because of the amount of games that have been released for the console. But i cant wait to get hold of the PSX2, that will be truly great.

I don't think there has ever been a 'best machine of all time' I don't mean that I'm not satisfied with the machines I've owned, just the opposite. All the consoles and computers I've had have had amazing games for them and interesting qualities that set them apart from their rivals and future incarnations.
The ones that stand out, as far as games go, are:

The SNES - it had some addictive games like Mario Kart, Street Fighter II and Unirally and the graphics and sound at the time were truly amazing.

Megadrive - Simply for Sonic, that tearaway hedgehog of fun. Also Micro Machines and other games were always fun.

Amiga - Walker, Cannon Fodder (with all the music!) and Settlers were three of my favorite games of all time.

Dreamcast - It's my current favorite and has some stunning games like Soul Caliber. Looks like there are plenty more to come as well!

PS2/Gamecube - we will see!
