No! one of my childhood soccer hero's matt le tissier is retiring at the end of the season. he was so great and was at southampton for 16 years it was his only club. 200 odd goals in just ove 350 appearance and 8 england caps. At one point in the mid 90's southampton had won a game without him for over 5 years.

Matt's testimonial should be held at the biggest ground going in the country with only Saints supporters allowed, he's reverred (sp) as a God down here and with only a 32000 seater stadium that could be filled at least twice over.

I think tickets went on sale about 3 weeks ago and were basically sold out within a week.

I'll be watching it on Sky so I'm not that worried although I'd have loved to have gone.

Le Tissier was at his best whilst Graham Taylor was England manager though, and he never gave him a change, but played Carlton Palmer regularly!

Le Tissier was great. He'd drift right out of the game, then score from 35 yards, or produce a blinding bit of skill to set up a goal.

I reckon it was his lack of England chances that blew his confidence, and stopped him being as good as he could have been in his later years.

Do you reckon we'll see Gazza sitting in the stand crying his eyes out on the last day of the season when Leicester go down.....lol! ;D

If they have renamed it to that then that is pathetic and I thought ours was a bit dodgy?

I'll be glad to see the back of Leicester!

No it doesn't still stand, it was knocked down and we now play on a local playing field called St Mary Park ;D also affectionately known as Friends Provident St Marys Stadium, current capacity 32,000 peeps.

Le Tiss testimonial on 14th May against an all England XI - think it's being shown live on Sky so watch out for that.

Sad to see him retire, I've seen him score some fantastic goals against some good teams (Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle etc etc) Go out and get a copy of Unbelievable, I think there's about 140 - 150 of his goals shown including all 30 penalties including the 1 he missed against Mark Crossley (saved).

He's past his sell by date now and I think it's time he hung up his boots, we're doing ok without him at the moment (last 2 games exluded ;D) but he'll never be replaced or forgotten.

Glad to see there's other Le Tiss supporters out there!

As for England caps, that's Venables for you! "oh you wont join Spurs, well you can shove your England place where the sun don't shine, even if you are the best midfielder in the country at the moment"

Its a real shame - Le Tissier was a class player!! I never forget those goals he scored against Newcastle a few seasons back - Quality!! However he was a bit lazy at times!!

He'll be sadly missed by the Saints, and I doubt they'll be able to replce him either!

But maybe they other players will see this as his last season, and want to make it one to remember (by avoiding relegation) - and double their efforts!

They should dedicate The Dell (if it still stands) to Matt Le Tissier!

I also cannot believe he only earnt 8 England caps!!
