...but what the hell does 'pikey' mean?

I've seen it pop up a lot recently, seemingly meaning different things, because it's used in different contexts.

Definition please.

If you use the word 'pikey' too often here where i live you take your life in your own hands because there are a lot of them around.

They are alright if they keep themselves to themselves, but if they take a dislike to you then you can kiss goodbye to your car/house/face/ass.

Although Pikeys only reffered to Irish gypsies since Snatch...

Before then it referred to any 'Travellers' rather than Gypsies...

Well I said it in my first post, but I'll say it again

Pikeys are Irish gypsies, who are not really Irish, but not really English... they're just kind of... pikey
