I must say that I am quite impressed with SilentScope after seeing it running and although I have my reservations about playing it without a gun peripheral, I might just buy it!!!
Anyway here is a topic for you. Do you think there should be more games related programme on TV?? and on a related subject, why are games programmes always screened at stupid times??
If they bothered to produce a decent games programme then I am sure that there is quite a sizable audience for it!! So why cant the TV companies get their fingers out and make a bit of effort for us gamers?
Anyway, if anyone knows of any decent shows that cover games please let me know.
In the mean time as a passing shot I will say this. Why is BITS presented by three women?? I presume it was an attempt to cash in on the casual gaming fraternity and younger (at least mentally) gamers who want women to look at, regardless of the subject matter. If this is the case then why A) put BITS on so late that no-one younger than 14 is likely to be watching and B) choose three women who to be quite frank look like they feel out of the ugly tree and collided with a few branches on the way down.
I am not saying we should not have female presenters but it would be nice if they A) knew something about games and B) werent trying to be neo-feminists (ie lads with breasts, supping pints and acting over the top obnoxious). Just my opinion though!!
I've just seen a trailer for a new games show called "Blam!", which starts on Sky One, this Saturday at 12:30pm.
Not sure what to make of it from the brief trailer, but I suppose it's worth checking out, just in case.

Ooh yes, so I have! Cheers for that - I hadn't checked.

Think I'll ask for SSX... not usually into snowboarding games, but even ignoring the pretty graphics, it looks pretty entertaining!

There are some that seem dodgy (such as Midnight Club and Smuggler's Run), but judging by the awesome appearance of other titles, I'd put this down to the coders not getting the best out of the machine.
Incidentally, have you read the artcile in issue 2 of PSM2 regarding the 'teething problems'? It seems that much of the concern about jaggies, power of the machine, and coding difficulties etc. have been settled. Someone from Volition (producers of Red Faction - another title that's looking good) reckons there's no problem coding at all.
Many launch titles were apparently developed on PC's in Middleware packages, and these haven't translated to the real thing very well. Those using 'proper' PS2 development kits have had a much easier time.
Fasten your seatbelts... once we leave the launch ramp, this ride is going to be very intense!
As you have all pointed out in your posts above there is definately a market for a games programme or even channel and lets hope that one of the TV companies realise this at some point. We could try lobbying them I suppose!!
Babylonian, on your point that the games look much better when seen running, this is true but I still have my doubts about whether video does the games justice. I cant wait to hook up my PS2 and see for myself.
I as well have always wanted to see a Regular TV show just showing the games, and decent, anti-bias Reviews so you can see what the games are really like on the Big Screen rather than a still-frame, and rather than spending hours downloading the latest 30 Second Trailers of the best games you want to see. The only show that sometimes has computer game-related things at times upto Midnight is on .Tv Technologies, if you have Sky Digital like myself, it is on Channel 567.
That is the only option, as I don't feel like staying up until 4AM to watch a game show and then crawling into work the same morning trying to stay awake with Black Coffee! Who knows, maybe one of the chief's in the TV Channels might recognise the Niche here and create a Games show, and then see all the viewers, which will make other TV companies listen, but what do we all have to do to get the ball rolling for Decent Game Shows???
I mean, surely there must be something we could do to make Sky Create a Channel, that can be solely for gamers that will show Computer games, and then maybe a whole hour reporting about games all around the world.
Surely if we all grouped together, and maybe, just maybe if there was enough of us, we could force/get Sky to create a Channel!!! Who's with me???
PlayStation has proved that there is a massive market to be had with older gamers, and the TV stations are still a long way from realising this, just as most of them are with 'adult' sci-fi such as Babylon 5 and Angel.
I'd like to see a regular program, aimed primarily or exclusively at adults, of *at least* one hour's duration, on at around 8 or 9pm, in a regular slot. There should be no need for inter-series breaks, either; after all, the games industry doesn't stop, so why should the coverage?
No 'golden joystick' competitions like GamesMaster, just good, solid, honest reviews, presented in a fun-but-adult manner, and with plenty of footage of the games actually running. Between 5 and ten minutes per review, so you can really get a feel for the game.
Having compared the content of the recent covermount videos on the PlayStation mags with screenshots of the games in those very same mags, it is patently clear that screenshots do not do games justice. Case in point: Timesplitters looks positively ropey in some of the shots I've seen, but one look at the video footage and it's immediately clear that this is not the case. Also, you can only get a real feel for the speed, movement and general look of the games in video form; 60fps *sounds* great... it *looks* fantastic.
When you look at some of fairly low ratings on some of the so-called 'top 20' TV shows, I'm sure that a decent, mature, well thought out videogame show could get at least double the amount of viewers. It just needs a bit of effort, and - preferably - to be designed *by* gamers, *for* gamers, and not some TV executive who thinks he knows what is required because his 7-year-old son owns a Gameboy Colour! (No offence to the Gameboy, of course.)
Oh well - rant over! Comments? Questions? Yes, you there... at the back...
As for computer games shows on TV, I'd love to see a show aimed at a mature audience shown at between 6 and 8pm. None of this Gamesmaster stuff aimed at kids or Cybernet aimed at technoheads, something in the middle would be nice.
