iPoints was one of the original points websites, sites that allow you to collect points for filling in surveys, buying goods from various retailers and joining up with free services like dating and book clubs. There are hundreds of ways to get these points and they can be used to get a whole range of goods for free once you’ve collected enough points.
The site is easy to navigate, with a search engine to find a retailer or item and a list on the left hand side which allows you to choose by category. Items that will give you points include purchases from stores like Amazon, Currys, Debenhams, Play and sendit.com as well as magazine subscriptions, bingo, book clubs, survey sites, Figleaves and many more. In fact, the list is pretty impressive and you’ll find enough to choose from to gain some all important points.
EARNING POINTS
Points are allocated differently, depending on how you earn them. Some retailers will give you 10 points per £1 spent or less with others, Bingo and Casinos are usually the best way to earn points by spending money as you can earn 4000 for a £10 deposit. Some of these bingo sites double your money and then let you take the initial deposit back out, meaning you can get 4000 points for nothing if you’re careful.
Magazine subscription offers are another good way to gain a lot of points for a small fee. Most subscription offers allow you to get 3 issues of a magazine for £1 and offer 800 points for each subscription. Cancelling the magazines before the final issue is sensible here, but you’ll find that the magazine titles change after a few months, allowing you to subscribe to a new magazine and get more points.
If you tend to buy goods through websites like Amazon and Play.com then gaining ipoints is as easy as using the ipoints website first to get to these sites. Most give you around 4 points to a £ so it may take you a while to earn a decent amount of points, but if you’re buying the goods anyway, it makes sense to get something for them.
The only downside to earning points is the length of time it sometimes takes for them to get added to your account. The site does mention that it can take 30 days for your points to be allocated, but I’ve waited 2 months before some of mine were added to my total, which can be frustrating when there’s something you really want to use the points for.
SPENDING POINTS
As with gaining iPoints, the site gives you plenty of choice in how to spend your hard earned points. The easiest way to browse all the options for spending your points is to click on the ‘Spend ipoints’ tab at the top of the page. This takes you to a page with a list of different categories such as Gifts & Goodies, DVDs, Sound and Vision etc.
Clicking on one of these will bring up the gifts on offer. Some sections, such as DVDs, have a search engine for you to choose from a wide range of items, plus there is often the option to take vouchers rather than what iPoints has on offer. This gives you a lot more freedom to choose what you want.
I tend to go for DVDs, as I can then get HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs with my points. I’ve also received CDs, Books and toys with my iPoints. It’s even possible, with enough points, to get a Playstation 3!
Summary
iPoints is a very good system for getting free or cheaper gifts. If you regularly check the offers you can often get lots of free points and spending a little money in the right place will allow you to get a lot more points to use on larger items. It doesn’t cost anything to sign up either, so there’s no way you can lose.
If you shop on the sites that give you points, or have a lot of time on your hand to go through the various ways of getting points then it's good for getting the odd freebies.
I prefer the cashback websites you get like quidco instead.
