Hello my friends of the jungle (do monkeys live in jungles?)

This is part of a Monkey production you will not find anywhere else, this is an exclusive to the Special Reserve forums – Monkey Music! So expect a whole batch of other CD’s to be reviewed very soon.

Well there was the introduction to my series now lets get on with the backbone of this topic – the review.

Today’s CD is infact by Far. Now most of you probably never have heard of Far before but that doesn’t matter, they make music better then any of Limp Bizkit's crew and so you most probably should check some of this stuff out. I’m not going to go into some big explanation about Far but they were just as big as the Deftones in the hometown they both grew up in, in the same years.

FAR – WATER & SOLUTIONS
Water & Solutions is Far’s fourth album but second and last commercial album, on with the melody packed songs which rock my banana…

BURY WHITE
First track on the album and I am greeted with roaring guitars which sound quite evil and scary, but you live through it. Why? WHY?!? Because Jonah (singer) comes in and says “Sooth Me Lover”. This guy needs a kiss, kiss him, kiss the CD, KISS THE GODDAMN JONAH! He also reassures you with “It’s alright” in his Mexican/white/Jewish/Korean/Polish/Armenian/whatever he is voice.
*****

REALLY HERE
This song starts with a kinda guitar grinding solo which really is some nice work, the drums play a steady relaxing beat which makes you just want to sway from side to side closing your eyes much like you are recovering from getting dizzy...or maybe that’s just me that does that. Jonahs voice is just perfect in this, so perfect you could kiss him again even though you are 100% straight, that’s how beautiful this song is.
*****

WATER & SOLUTIONS
LOOK! IT’S THE TITLE OF THE ALBUM! WOW! Anyway…the song starts with a *crunch crunch crunch crunchy crunchy crunchy* sound then everything calms and the bass and drums play together in with Jonah who screams, shouts then realises he’s all about love, peace and stuff and so blesses your eardrums with harmony to make this song another five star. Does everything this guys voice touch turn five star? Read on…
*****

MOTHER MARY
Ohhhhhh lookie Far are going to do emo-punk, will it work? Of course it will because these guys can play instruments unlike the failed attempts on Kerrang TV (see Mr Happy’s topic). The lyrics will keep you singing all day and the guitar work will make you jump around on your guitar like a ermmmm Monkey?!? Oh yeah and they done it again…
*****

I LIKE IT
No really I do, I really do like it. I like it is a song about Jonah liking stuff, he likes stuff and he understands. Don’t believe me? Go listen, he will tell you so and you will believe him because he is a better singer then you. Jonah sings about his love then gets a bit annoyed with things and then goes mental, but they don’t lock him up?!? Why? Because he’s Jonah, pure and simple. This may seem stupid now but this deserves a five star also…it’s all DAMN PERFECT!
*****

THE SYSTEM
Jonah has no had enough of mellowing out and so in this punkish song he nearly explodes as he shouts – the system, the system, the system, THE SYSTEM, THE SYSTEM!!! Whether it’s a Master System or a another kind of system its not ‘System Of A Down’ because Far are in another league.
****

NESTLE
Suddenly everything goes quite…then it there’s loads of churning guitar again. Song about a dead Dad and so this is beautiful, especially the chourusy bit. A very up and down song, going from soft to angry but still gorgeous like a brand new baby.
****

IN 2 AGAIN
Everything here goes quite again and stays it as violins come in…WICKED! I love a bit of ol’ volin, don’t you? Softest song on the album, great for all you listeners that like to cry or to commit suicide…the voice steals this song. Less guitar work then before and a simple drum beat but it all works out a-ok.
****

WEAR IT SO WELL
I thought everything was going to turn nice from now on but then this song comes along and makes me jump from my seat like your granny listening to the Spice Girls. This is the point where they turn evil again but with soft sung lyrics which turn into angry screams. The guitar work will make you love this song as will Jonahs who wants to shout as he loved his last CD (which was more hardcore). The drumming in this song is superb especially at the end where the guitar and drums just decide to go away from Jonah for a second who puts to much love into it all and so they go mental. Want to know what emo-rock is all about? Check this out, it’s not all acousticy stuff you know. After listening to this you will want to make love to every band member five times in one night at the same time…
*****

MAN OVERBOARD
After you’ve had your little mosh you feel like a rest right? Well this song is beautifully placed for you to sit down, have a breather and enjoy a nice well rounded song, great shape and figure like that Jennifer Love Hewitt mmmmmm
****

ANOTHER WAY OUT
These guys really do experiment with their music, listen to this song, listen to this CD, you here it from beginning to end. This is another ‘I want to cry’ songs, if you feeling down it nearly actually makes you. How do they do it? HOW?!? Maybe it’s because Jonah wants to make love to your eardrums and the other members just want to join in. These guys rock.
*****

WAITING FOR SUNDAY
This is where Far say goodbye to everyone and there are signs in to this song about why Far split up, it being their last song. Perfect way to end the CD, great way to end a career which made people make them want to come back and rock them all over again – I salute you Far.

Yep 'Monkey Gone To Heaven' is a Pixies cover and actually really remade to the original. The originals more upbeat and straight forward.

Dashboard Confessional is some great stuff, I am going to be getting the album soon. it kind of reminds me of Onelinedrawing but Onelinedrawing seems more like an experiment whilst Dashboard feels solid.

Tin Cans With Strings To You is a album I can listen to in any mood as it covers all of them. Theres slow, depressing songs like 'Girl' as you said and theres heavy songs like 'Love, American Style'. I'll review it later I think :-)

Texas Is The Reason, having two members of New End Original in it sounds nothing like New End at all, the sounds are more rockier and the lyrics are some of my fav's.

I'm so sad to line up all my albums in 'what I like best' order and Texas Is The Reason's 'Do You Know Who You Are?' comes before 'Clarity' But after New End's. It's good stuff, even though the singer may get getting use to for some people but with winers like Blink 182 and co how can you not like it? His voice is pretty good actually, better then the Thursday guy.

Actually, I'm going to hold a vote. I know some of you have never heard of some of these bands but just pick the one that sounds best to you :-) What shall I review next as it's quite enjoyable and makes me listen better. I'll take a selection.

Ok -

Far - Tin Cans With Strings To You
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
Texas Is The Reason - Do You Know Who You Are?
New End Original - Thriller (didn't you do that Happy?)
Incubus - Morning View
Rival Schools - United By Fate
Thursday - Full Collapse
or
S Club 7 - Sunshine.

No really :-)

Sorry! I completely missed this first time round, I just scrolling down the list of topics now and I spotted it, I mean it beats transport economics doesn't it?

I love this album, particularly "in 2 again" and "Man Overboard", which, thank god, wasn't an original that Blink 182 had covered... far too good for dirty pop-punks like Blink, though they're improving...

Water and Aolutions is in my current to play list as I make revision notes on Transport Economics... Along with:

Dashboard Confessional - The places you have come to fear the most (punk man turned emo weepy acoustic boy)

Jetplane Landing - Zero for Conduct (I bought this by accident thinking, or not thinking as the case was, that they were Jets to Brazil, but it's actually rather good At the Drive-in-ish stuff)

Far - Water & Solutions (this rules, rocks and owns all the other albums apart from...)

...Far - Tin Cans (I love this album... It's so perfectly formed, I love "Girl" the most because it's minor key weepy music to slit your wrists to, which is nice :-)

Saves the Day - Stay What You Are (Not listened to this yet... unsure about it, "At Your Funeral" was good, but I don't know about the rest...)

My brother's gone into Birmingham today, so I gave him some money and told him to buy the Texas is the Reason album, should be there I hope... And on saturday I'll get the other Dashboard album and 24 hour revenge therapy by Jawbreaker is the postman hasn't got the day off. Oh and Diary by Sunny Day Real Estate as well... Which Amazon thinks is called Dairy for some reason.

Great review MWA, I'm going to check your track descriptions when the cd's on... in probably 70 minutes or so..
