What is going on with PES2? Is it really a step forward?
Some gripes....
I'm not sure about the new feel of the game...firstly the players feel like they're wearing 80's roller boots- it just doesn't have the zip of the original! The control of players has become too intricate....there seems to be an inbalance between attack and defence. If controlling a defender and you miss a simple tackle you then have to go through a huge turning circle before you can give chase to the attacker....yet in attack, a quick turn and run and the com just muscles you off straight away!
At least fifty percent of my goals to date come from getting the ball up to Henry at the corner of the box, who then does a quick turn or two and then slots it in in the diagonal.....ie less variety.
It is often that from a kick off you can superfast dribble all the way into the opposing box and score.....quite exciting but a tad unrealistic!

Losing Trezeguet for 12 matches for a minor injury!! (yellow)

Using the square button for pressing the ball but seeing the player just run past the attacker and then running in a big circle like a plonker.

Beckham accepting the ball on the wing with 20 yards of space but being closed down before you reach the area.

The commentary....I tell a lie! He's missed it. Duh!

Freekicks are so much harder. You take a real beauty and it could't get any nearer to the top corner but the keeper always saves it.

Penalties-I've had 6 during games.....had five saved! Something about the law of averages and all that.

Ok there are lots of good additions that enhance the experience...fouls when jumping for the ball, great animations, training mode la la but somehow I feel a bit cheated. I was hoping that PES2 would be a progression but in these early days it seems more like a chunky older brother. What was working in PES seems to have been tampered with to allow the new bits in PES2 but at a cost....

Just want to add that I thought PES was a bit naff at first but grew to love it, so I suppose it's possible that'll happen again....

Finally, what camera angles do you guys use? I normally use default long but have just found that adding the sweeping effect gives the game something extra.....

I scored from my own half today in the Master League with Mijolavic (Mihajlovic) as Deportivo. I don't know how the hell I did it - there were 2 minutes to go until half time and I just decided to strike the ball from inside the semi-circle in my own half of the field. Mihajlovic absolutely smashed the ball, sort of like Roberto Carlos does from the free kicks, and the goalkeeper was caught off his line, and it went in off the bar.

I was so shocked I almost forgot to save it. :-D

a) Send it to PSW.

b) I scored a similar one to that on the other PES. Free kick right out on the wing. I blasted it with Beckham, it swung in, hit the cross bar and as it was heading downwards it smashed off the keepers flailing fist :D

I scored one of the most amazing free kicks today when playing the game with my mates. It was a 2-2 on game and was Man Utd against Arsenal. Got a free kick about 40-45 yards out and just hit it with Beckham. Pressed up on the d-pad and it just flew past the wall, past the faliling keeper, smashed against the bar and went in. My mates went crazy-even the ones we scored against. They said it was one of the most amazing goals they have ever seen on Pro Evo. It is saved fortunately :)

The solution for the 'Orange' men is simple! If you have PES1, then simply load the the option file from that, on PES2...and like magic, all the dutch players are back, Van Nistelrooy, Davids etc. Some are still missing, for example Michel Mols from Rangers, bcoz he wasnt on PES1!

I'll have to keep trying those pesky free kicks....pah!

Just a couple of other things.....
There is STILL that thing where a ball is heading slowly towards one of you players but the geezer won't move faster than a snail on lithium.
I guess my major gripe is that it just doesn't seem to flow like its predecessor. You have the ball outside their area, lose it and they always make it to your area, where they lose it and head for their are and so on...patiently trotting up and down...there seems so be less midfield battles perhaps....hmmmm.....

If a game is judged on time spent playing it then this is my favourite game ever....I've been non stop....the thing I just don't feel like i'm enjoying it as much as I do with PES.

Hmmm... I've not been stopped from scoring 4 free-kicks in 1 Master League season. All with Chilavert, who I bought for my club, Deportivo. Chilavert scoring all of these makes it all so much sweeter. :-D

This may also seem strange, but I've not missed a penalty in this game yet, out of 4 or 5. I've had 2 in the Master League, which were both converted by Chilavert. I love that guy! :-D
