professor e-gad has reported some unsettling disturbances on the moon, and the Mario twins are the first volunteers to help. they are sent up into space in a missing-panels-dolphin kinda ship. when they reach the moon, they set up a base. this will be the place to come and revive your health, or rather your space suits health. You can alternate between Mario and Luigi. Mario has more gravity, so he can dive underwater, and Luigi can jump a metre higher than Mario.
The mushroom kingdom's moon is an unsettling place, vast, and vaguely distinguished. there are 9 levels, a set of maze like caves, a ghost Martian town, a large lake, and so on.
the enemies in SMBSO, are not unlike in Mario 64. there are a few red wigglers, a lot of green shy guys, and most of the moon is populated by sort of grey Goombas and Koopas, the plot of which is determined later.
bosses: there is a scene in which several of the Goombas and Koopas form together to create a sort of giant Godzilla like thing, and a large animated set of bird bones, like a pterodactyl. there is also a giant monster, made of dust, and a sort of mimic Mario, made from toxic waste on the surface of the planet.
the plot: as mentioned before, the Mario twins are sent off to investigate he strange happenings on the moon. you will encounter zombie-looking Goombas and Koopas, and a large amount of animated bosses. by investigating the signs the natives left on the cave walls, and the state of the ghost towns, you conclude it was two people, the shaman, a short, fat person, who wields the power of flame. the other space bandit, is a being known as witch doctor. he is said to wield the power of flame. as Mario and lunge, you will battle both the evil shamans, and the ice-wielder will escape, leaving you with the defeated witch doctor. you unmask him to be: Wario! Mario and lunge both know who the witch doctor is now, and they realise too late where he has gone. the ship! and a cut scene ensures, in which the citizens of mushroom kingdom gather to greet the brave entrepreneurs, and are greeted by the masked ice-menace, the witch doctor! but, what’s this? a comet? headed for the mushroom kingdom? NO! its Mario and lunge on to of a revenge driven Wario! ten ensues a fierce battle, using both Mario, lunge, and Wario, to battle the evil which doctor. this battle will take part in three stages, one near the ship, another by the palace, and finally in the seaport. you will battle on a patch of floating ice, trying to get near enough to the witch doctor to butt-slam his bony be-hind. once defeated, hw will try to fly off, but since he is too weak, he crashed through the ice, and is froze. end scene: Waluigi is driven away to jail, while the reformed (for now) Wario enjoys a hi five with the Mario brothers, and a medal. (all three get a medal, duh)
I’d also like to see more games themed on things like robbery, or graffiti, but with that Mario twist. for example, someone could rob a bank. would it be the treasure hungry Wario? the dodgy Montgomery mole? the untrustworthy toad, phileas pontificate? you will have to find out, in a mix of detective of, and supreme plat forming!
