Have you been injured? Have you had an accident that wasn't your fault? Call We'll Sue 'Um Direct and we'll handle your case on a no win, no fee basis. And remember, where there's blame, there's a claim. Get your free money today!

God I hate those adverts. Do you remember the one with the woman breaking her office chair? I mean come on, she was atleast 300lbs, it's not the companies fault the chairs don't come with warning labels "maximum weight 299lbs".

And the guy provided the wrong sort of ladder. If he knew he had the wrong ladder, then why did he still go up it? Don't give people money for being stupid. If there is water on the floor, what difference would a sign make? You couldnt even spot the giant pool of water, how are you going to notice a sign?

Then you get the killjoys, the whole conkers and goggles thing. Soon our kids won't even be allowed to do any physical exercise because the schools fear they'll get sued because little Timmy got a scratch playing rugby.

I read an article awhile ago about a bank worker suing her employers because she overheard a co-worker talking to someone else saying she didn't like foreigners. The woman was offended because she's 1/16 Lithuanian or something.

Todays we have some new ones, Scout leaders aren't allowed to help apply sun block on kids unless they are already burnt. And Firemen are losing their pole because it's a "hazzard". Apparently running down the stairs is much more safer :S go figure.

So what are your views on this whle compensation culture? Don't get me wrong I think people should be compensated if it's clearly someone elses fault, but not when it's the result of your own stupidity.

This also leads to stupid notices and warnings telling people how to work things incase they injure themselves, for example on packets of nuts you get the warning - "May contain nuts".

I remember one case from the US where a woman tripped up over a toddler running around in a department store and injured herself so she successfully sued the store for compensation.

The store were quite surprised at the result as it was her own child.

This is absolutely true by the way I just can't find it on the net anywhere.

Just to add to Kawada's comment. The woman was 79 years old and...

# She placed the coffee cup between her knees and pulled the far side of the lid toward her to remove it. In the process, she spilled the entire cup of coffee on her lap.

# Liebeck was wearing cotton sweatpants; they absorbed the coffee and held it against her skin as she sat in the puddle of hot liquid for over ninety seconds.

Not the smartest of old ladies is she :)

I do love people quoting that case because what never actually gets reported is the fact there was a fault in the machine and the coffee that burned her was a good few hundred degrees so as far as that goes i say fair play to her, not like McDonalds are desperate for cash.

However yes i'm also sick of the compensation, blame anyone but yourself culture and even more so of those bloody adverts. Is there any chance i can sue them for making me stressed? :-D

Slipped on a wet floor? Learn how to walk like 99% of normal human beings, if you suddenly hit the deck just because there's a bit of water there then you have worse balance than Bambi, damn schmucks.

I fully agree. It's really quite sickening to see the amounts people get away with on account of their own stupidity.

The one case that springs to mind is that woman who burned her mouth on some coffee from McDonald's, despite the fact that the cup was covered in warnings as they always are. I'm not sure of the facts, but I think she got away with a hefty sum, and for what, because she was too dumb to pay attention to the warnings? It's not right.

Your point about kids soon not being able to PE at school as well. While it may not be that extreme yet, schools and colleges have already stopped taking students on so many field trips. My history tutor at college said he used to take students on a trip about once a month, but we didn't have any this past year because according to him, the college "can't be bothered with the hassle. There are too many forms to sign to make sure their backs are covered if someone does get hurt". This, I fully believe.

It really gets to me that people can't take responsibility for their own actions, and they'd rather just blame someone else and get a load of money they don't deserve in the process.
