I've finally finished this game. (And in case anyone is interested I've put it up for sale on ebay - nice and cheap!) Can anyone recommend a similar type of game? One without any goblins and orcs would be dead welcome.

Fllout is a good game with a good plot and lots of tasks to do, set in a post apocolyptic future, the only creatures that inhabit the game are mutants. Not one orc or goblin in sight. You can get both fallout 1 and 2 together now on budget.
You should also try Planescape: Tourment. Its a much darker game than most other RPG's out at the moment with a strong plot and plenty of sub-tasks to complete. It doesn't even have any orc or goblins to fight.
